Roy Stuart Obituary

After a long illness, Roy Junior Stuart, 82, of Copper Hill, Va., departed this life on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Roy and Maude Stuart, sibling, John Hubbard Stuart, one son, Elburne Stuart, brothers-in-law, Harvey Price, Oscar Saunders, and Paul McDaniel, and one niece, Detra Price. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mable Stuart, of Copper Hill, Va.; sons, Chester Stuart, Granver Stuart, Milton and Violeta Stuart, Jacob and Annette Stuart, all of Copper Hill, Va. and John and Arlene Stuart, of Floyd, Va.; sisters, Lorraine Price, of Copper Hill, Va., Augustine Saunders, of Willis, Va., and Lellia McDaniel, of Copper Hill, Va.; a special "lil' buddy" and great-nephew, Shiloh Stuart McDaniel; nine grandchildren, 10 great -grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Roy or "Shorty" as he was sometimes referred to never met a stranger. He loved truck driving and took on several business ventures the latest and most successful of which being S&S Paving Co., Inc. which he operated along with his sons. Even after he retired from the company he enjoyed being on the job with his sons and employees, meeting customers, and joking with those he rubbed shoulders with along the way. He also enjoyed traveling to visit out of state family members and watching his sons, grandsons, and nephews drag race. A man small in statute filled big shoes of responsibility with honor and leaves behind a wonderful legacy for his family to cherish and be proud of. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clinton Crump officiating. Interment will follow in the Stuart Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Maberry Funeral Home. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd. Online condolences may be made at maberryfuneralhome.com.
