Douglas Collins Obituary

Douglas Minor Collins, 77, of Walnut Road, Pembroke, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, April 10, 2012, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg after a long illness. Born in Giles County on June 28, 1934, he was a son of the late Minor Lee and Virginia Bailey Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Douglas M. Collins Jr. and Kenneth Randall Collins; his brothers, "Jackie" Marshall Collins and Arnold J. "Shorty" Collins; and his sister, Shirley Mae Collins. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of over 57 years, Thelma Lang Collins; his sons, Danny Ray Collins, of Pembroke, Donald Lee Collins of Blacksburg, and Michael Lee Collins, of Pembroke; his daughter, Linda Sue Collins, of Pembroke; his brothers, J. E. "Pete" Collins, of Staffordsville, and C. E. "Deanie" Collins, of Pembroke; his sister, Joyce Ann Collins, of Blacksburg; his 10 grandchildren and his five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be sent by visiting kendallfuneralhome.com.
