Marvin Sartin Obituary

Marvin Plyman Sartin, 85, of Eggleston, Va., passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Mr. Sartin was born on May 5, 1925, in Eggleston, Va., and was a son of the late James H. and Gertie Vaught Sartin. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Aaron Hughes Sartin; and two brothers-in-law, Layman H. Hutchison and Gene A. Tracy. Mr. Sartin was of the Methodist faith and was baptized when he was a youth. In his earlier years he loved to hunt and fish. He was a retired employee from the Celanese Corporation in Narrows with over 41 years service. He was a World War II Army Veteran serving in the Medical Detachment 415 Infantry and also serving with the 104th Timberwolf Infantry Division where he received a Bronze Star Medal Citation, twice awarded the Purple Heart, received an American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Glenna Dowdy Sartin, of Eggleston; two sons, Marvin L. Sartin and wife, Vicky, of Pearisburg, and Dale D. Sartin and wife, Connie, of Eggleston; two daughters, Betty J. Imel and husband, Butch, of Cattlettsburg, Ky., and Connie G. Henning and husband, Paul, of Port Saint Lucie, Fla.; three grandsons, Wesley P. Sartin, of Narrows, Cody R. Sartin, of Pearisburg, and Ethan D. Sartin, of Eggleston; two brothers, James A. Sartin and wife, Charlotte, of Christiansburg, and Carroll W. Sartin and wife, Gladys, of Shenandoah, Texas; four sisters, Freda S. Hutchison, of Narrows, Marie S. Roberts, of Pearisburg, Janice S. Tracy, of Rocky Mount, and Evelyn S. Evans and husband, Eugene, of Staffordsville; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the Givens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, June 9, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
