Christa founded the first Montessori school in Blacksburg in 1976, located in the Northside Presbyterian Church. In 1982, with the support of parents, she relocated the school into the newly constructed Montessori Childrens House on Tall Oaks Drive. Christa retired from full-time teaching in 1993; however, she continued to teach German at the school on a part-time basis for the next 15 years. Christa's warm smile and gentle graces will be deeply missed but remembered by all. She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Drummond, of Blacksburg; daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Bob Rhodes, of Greensboro, N.C.; sons and daughter-in-law, Fred and Tricia Drummond, of Burke, Va., Father Alexander Drummond, of Great Falls, Va.; grandchildren, Christopher, Annemarie, Kate, Kim; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, William; sisters, Elizabeth Hooten, Gertraut Klose, Annamarie Toma. A Memorial Mass will be conducted Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Remi Sojka and Father Alexander Drummond officiating. Interment will be in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, 200 Progress Street, NE, Blacksburg, VA 24060. Dear Chuck and Family,

Christa's gentle voice over the telephone has carried me through many a difficult battle. My heart broke when I learned that she was called to fight the same battle for herself. Now, her fight is over and her faith has carried her home.

She was one of the most gentle, gracious and elegant women that I have ever known. Our prayers are with you.

Dear Betsy, Chris, and Annemarie:
I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Drummond's passing. She was one of my favorite teachers, if not my favorite. I always loved the songs and other things she taught us in kindergarten. I know she's in a better place now, but she will be terribly missed. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. You all are in my thoughts during this difficult time.

Dear Betsy and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Christa was a very special lady. I have many fond memories of her while teaching the children German, her songs and her beautiful smile. She was a pleasure to work with. I also remember the admiration she had in her eyes when she would see you with the children.
Your family will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

I will always remember Christa's warm smile as my Montessori school teacher in the mid-80s and a fellow churchgoer at Northside Presbyterian Church.
May Christa's loving family find comfort during this difficult time.
