Faithe Overstreet Obituary

Faithe Main Overstreet, 90, of Salem, Va., died on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. She was born on June 15, 1920, in Roanoke, Va., daughter of the late Rose Hundley and Andrew Robert Main. She is survived by her cherished husband, George M. Overstreet. They were married for 69 years. Surviving also are a son, Andrew D. Overstreet and wife, June, of Pearland, Texas; a daughter, Lisa and husband, Norman Allred; three granddaughters, Crystal Devail and husband, Andrew, and Amanda and Carmen; one grandson, Julian; great-grandson, Trevor Devail; great-granddaughter, Jordan Devail, all of High Point, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Martha Ann and Bob Davis, of Canton, Ga.; and a brother, A. Paul Main, of Spartanburg, S.C. Faithe graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Waynesboro, Va., and National Business College. She worked as a secretary at Rainbow Bread Company. After raising her children she went to work at Lewis-Gale Hospital working with Medicare patients. She was active at Calvary Baptist Church of Roanoke teaching Sunday School, secretary of the Missionary Union, and helped set up the Baptist Friendship House on Elm Ave. for working with children. She helped organize the Salem Republican Women's Club. She was a Girl Scout leader; volunteered in donor room at Red Cross; completed a four year study "Education for Ministry" that covers the old and new testament, church history and theology joining St. Paul's Episcopal Church, of Salem in 1986, after hearing Dr. Scott Peck speak on the true meaning of prayer in life. Faithe learned about how to put into practice daily meditation and prayer which greatly enriched her Christian life and she helped organize and belonged to several prayer groups most of her adult life. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Brad Laycock officiating. Inurnment will follow the service. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.
