Mary Dowdy Minton

Mary Dowdy Minton, 89, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 6, 2010. She was a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church and had been a charter member of Airlee Court Baptist Church. To all who knew her she was a loving, kind, and good person. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Ross Minton Jr. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Janet Minton, of Christiansburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Gaye and Joe Goodall, of Oak Park; two grandchildren, Heather Southard and husband, Jonathan, of Bedford, and Mary Chris Escobar and husband, Mike, of Richmond; and a great-grandson, Seth Southard, of Bedford. She is also survived by one sister, Edna D. Rumburg. Services will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 318 Church Avenue. The Rev. C. Nelson Harris will officiate. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Park following the service. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Virginia Heights Baptist Church, 2014 Memorial Ave., SW, Roanoke, Va. 24015.
