Yvonne Ferris Obituary
Throughout her life she provided a loving home full of good food, sound advice and beautiful flowers, which blossomed much in the way her family did under her care and guidance. Her family will remember most vividly the holiday gatherings at her home, where she was delighted to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends.
The spiritual community at St. Elias Church was a second family for her, where she was an active parishioner for many decades. She donated her time, treasures and talents to the Lord through her work at the church, including the annual Lebanese Festival.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Ellis S. Ferris; and her parents, John and Sadie Kazaka. Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters, May Haddad and Helen Malouf; her brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Laurel Kazaka; her son and daughter-in-law, Raphael and Terri Ferris; her daughters and sons-in-law, Reneé and David Turk, Deebie and Joseph Thomas, and Maureen and Michael McAllister; her 12 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive visitors at Oakey's Downtown Chapel on Saturday, June 19, 2010, from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.; and on Sunday, June 20, 2010, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. The funeral will take place at St. Elias Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Elias Church Building Fund, 4730 Cove Road, Roanoke, Va. 24017 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.

Dear Deebie,
I am so heartbroken to hear about your mother. She never liked us teenage girls out driving around and would say "you girls just come over here" and when we arrived, she'd say "Are you girls hungry?" I will always treasurer the memory of sitting around your kitchen table eating at midnight. I adored your mom!
