Our daddy was our hero
Our daddy was so strong.
He stood for what was right,
And knew when things were wrong.
Our Daddy was our leader,
On strings he taught us songs.
He's with us day and night,
Even though he's gone.
We talked of things that's come to pass,
He spoke of things to come,
He said there'll be a day
When his work on earth is done.
I didnt want to listen,
It was my biggest fear,
I sit behind this keyboard
My eyes are filled with tears.
Something we must realize
When we released the dove,
It meant our Daddy's going home,
To God's forgiving love.

Seven days after Father's Day, Daddy went home to be with the Father. He was 77 years old.

We'll all miss you, Dad.
Love Always,

Chris Hartman

You've gone home to glory
I know the trip was long
Waiting to see the ones you've lost
Now you are where you belong.
Tell everyone we send our love
And miss you all so much
Days are really empty now
Without your loving touch.
To all the children up in heaven
We never got to meet
Sing to them your "Papaw Song"
And bounce them on your knee.
Your sitting on the hand of God
I bet playing your guitar
Going on without you
Day by day it seems so hard.
So for all of us you've left behind
Have faith we're on our way
You'll meet us there at heaven's gate
On that beautiful day.

Papaw, Thank you for teaching me the real meaning of family and love. No matter my faults, you and Mamaw always loved me, just like I was one of your own. I will miss you dearly, but I take comfort in knowing that one day we will see you again.
All my love,

Sherry Hartman Davis

I have lost the most kind-hearted man I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, my Daddy. Daddy, I miss you so much. You have meant the world to me. I could not have asked for a more loving and kind father. Daddy, you have been such an inspiration to me during my life. I will miss hearing your voice on the phone when I call home, you sitting in your favorite recliner watching Andy Griffith, hearing you sing the Pa Pa song to all the grandchildren. I could go on and on! Most of all, I will miss your support and guidance with my music. I will miss how you have been teaching me recently to pick runs on the guitar with my songs. I know, that it will be hard to bare for a while, but, Daddy, I know that the Lord wants me to continue my music and you will be smiling down at me whenever I play and sing. Daddy, on the day that you passed, Sunday, June 27th, I prayed on the way to the house that the Lord would receive you into his loving arms and that he would not let you suffer any more. He answered my prayer that day. He gave me just enought time to reach you and to be by your side. The Lord knew that we all needed to be by your side to see how peacefully and softly he received you into his arms. The Lord knew that this would give us the strength we need to carry on. Daddy, our family chain has been broken here on earth but it will be made whole again when we come to join you. I will always love you.

Your Baby Daughter,

Debbie English

I lost the dearest man in the world to me Sunday June 27th. My daddy, The Simple Man. A man of great integrity and wisdom, a man of many friends who loved him dearly, and he loved them all.Daddy, you would have been so proud. The chapel was full of your friends and family. But now you are in heaven. When I found out 3 weeks ago that you was going to die, my world crumbled. But I found the strength to take you and lay you at the foot of the cross. I prayed for Jesus to send the comforter to you and to take you home so you woudn't have to suffer. What a loving God is he. He answered all our prayers. Daddy, please speak to mama and let her know that she needs to carry on. She wants to come home to be with you now. You will forever walk softly across my heart and through my mind. I love you my sweet daddy. Remember what I told you Saturday before you passed away. That to save me a place, I would be there an hour and a half early when it's my time to join you.
your proud daughter

Gail,

I am so sorry to hear about your father. I wanted to come and give you a great big hug but as you know we had a death in our family too. I just have to believe that we both have special angels watching over us now. I didn't know your father but he sounds like he was a wonderful father, husband, brother, and friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May God bless you and give you strength during this difficult time.

Whenever I saw Paw Paw he always made me laugh. He was a kind, generous soul who enjoyed life to the fullest. He blessed my husband and family with many wonderful memories we will always carry with us. Though we will miss him terribly, we are confident we will see him again. I bet he will be one of the first people to greet us when we join him in heaven.

It was a Christmas at Debbie's when Brad introduced me to you and Lorraine. All of you felt like family to me right away. You were all so welcoming and such a close family. Right away you were as dear to me as my own grandparents. Our babies are so small, but already Peyton runs through the house singing "pop pop's man" and Carlie lights up when she hears it. You've shared so many stories, even taught me a thing or two about playing the guitar. You will be missed dearly in our home and by our family. I am so thankful that you had the opportunity to find your way into my heart, as well as that of our children. You have made such a beautiful, loving family, and I could never say enough how much that means to me, or how blessed I am to call them my own.

On the day that I was born, God blessed with a Daddy who loved me with all of his Heart. Daddy worked hard to make sure that his Wife and Children were provided with all we needed. He taught me love and patience, to sing for our Lord, to play my guitar, and moral values. Daddy wrote a song, that he sang to each of his Grandchildren. It was a silly song but we all loved to hear him sing it as he gathered that child in his arms and hold them on his lap. Daddy is my Hero and always will be. Everytime I pick up my guitar and sing I will remember as a little Girl I sat at his feet while he played his guitar and sang "Where he leads me I will follow." Daddy, I will see you in Heaven. With all of my Love, your first born child, the prettiest and the best.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Hartman family during this time of grief...but we all know Leo is in a much better place. As we grieve our loss and indeed the loss of the world as a whole...we also know that heaven is a much better place now that Leo is there! In the time I knew Leo he made a lasting impression on my life, and I feel I am a better man for knowing him.
I can just see him now sitting at the right hand of God playing that golden guitar!!!

Dear Family,
Our hearts are hurting with yours. I only became a part of this family 9 years ago. But the warm welcome I had from Leo will never be forgotten. What a joy of a soul he was. Always cutting up jokes and laughing. He could bring a smile to anyone. He was always telling me how much better looking he was then Cleo and would just laugh and laugh in church. He will be truly missed. I know Carl's heart is broken and will miss his Uncle truly. May the peace of our Lord bring you all comfort at this time. Please know that we are here for you all. I just can't say enough about this wonderful man, but you know in our hearts he will always remain. Love you all.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of your family. I have some fond memories of Leo That i will never forget, one of which was visiting his house one Christmas Eve. The whole family was there, singing and playing music. As we were all enjoying it, I looked over at him and he had tears of pure joy in his eyes. I could tell by the look on his face that he was very proud of his kids. I'm certain he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Yesterday I lost my comfort zone and that was my grandfather. Since I was a little girl papa and mama were always there. I knew no matter what was going on in my life I could go there and be a little girl again and they would make it all better. My papa was the most loving and caring person I knew he loved all his family and tought us to love just as he has. My families hero went to be with Jesus yesterday peacfully with family all around him and will now watch over us each and every day. My grandfather named me and I was the first born granddaughter and my daughter was the first born great grandchild which is Allie Gillespie papa was very special to all and will be missed every day by so many I am very sad but yesterday the heavens called on one of the sweetest angels ever my grandfather.
