David Lester Herrin

David Lester Herrin, 68, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at his home in Siler City, N.C. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Atla Herrin. of Roanoke; and his sisters, Dr. Joyce Herrin Saunders, of Richmond, and June Herrin, of Roanoke. David was born on June 2, 1942, and graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1961. He attended Virginia Tech and then served in the United States Army in Vietnam. He settled in the San Francisco area, where he spent most of his adult life. In 2008, he relocated to Siler City, where he enjoyed his house and playing golf with his life-long friend, David Myers. He also enjoyed visiting family in the Roanoke area. He was an Eagle Scout, member of "The Order of the Arrow." He had a life-long interest in scouting. Survivors include his sister, Judith Herrin, of Roanoke; a first cousin, Lena Gibson and husband, Dana, of Troutville; second cousin, Mary Westmoreland and husband, Ted; niece and nephews who are Joyce's children, Susan Richman and husband, Stuart, David Saunders and wife, Susan, Kenneth Saunders and wife, Kathy, and Robert Saunders; and two nieces who are Judith's children, Dr. Jessica Partin and husband, Chris, and Kathryn Freeman; and seven great-nieces and nephews, Sara Saunders, Justin, Ryan, and Hannah Saunders, Eric and Abby Richman, and Grace Partin. A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2010, at Sherwood Memorial Park with Pastor Carol Johnston officiating. The family will receive friends there from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2010. Arrangements are by Rader Funeral Home, Daleville, Va., 540-992-1212.
