Eva Craig Obituary

6/9/1936 ~ 6/8/2010 Eva T. Craig, 73, of Vinton, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, after a nine year fight with colon cancer. She was the daughter of Alvin T. Young and Lauren J. Thompson, of Vinton; and the stepdaughter of J. Everett Young, of Vinton. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ralph W. Craig, of Vinton; and her two sons, Scott W. Craig and wife, Sandra, of Langhorne, Pa., and Major Aaron R. Craig, USMC and wife, Lynn, of Toronto, Ontario. Eva leaves three grandchildren, Ryan W. Craig, of Langhorne, Allison N. Craig, of Langhorne, and Cooper R. Craig, of Toronto. Eva is also survived by her sister, Lorene T. Johnson and former husband, Milton, of Roanoke; and her nephew, Larry E. Moore, of Roanoke. Eva was preceded in death by her twin sister, Reba Thompson, of Roanoke; and her niece, Linda G. Miller, of Salem. Eva was born in Roanoke and went to high school at William Byrd, graduating in 1955. She attended business trade school and worked for Allstate Insurance before starting a family. Eva and her family also lived in Lynchburg for 18 years before returning to the Roanoke area in 1985. She was an active member of the Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton. Eva requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Roanoke Rescue Mission (rescuemission.net) or the American Cancer Society (cancer.org). A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Lynne Alley-Grant officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 11, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. She was the light of our life and will be greatly missed.

Ralph and family, I dearly loved Eva. She taught so many how to deal with illness. Her faith in the Lord saw her through and now sees Him face to face. How I remember her seeking prayers for our troops. Even in illness, she wanted prayers for them. May we all stop to remember those who defend freedom. May the Risen Lord comfort you during the days, years ahead.

Ralph, I am so sorry for your loss. I stopped at the Berkshire and she was not there. I was worried that she was back in the hospital but was afraid to call. I even brought the puppy for her to see... nothing like a puppy to cheer you up.

She was one of my favorite patients and I was blessed to have taken care of her.

This is hurting me almost as much as you. She was a very very dear friend and the best next door neighbor anyone could have. We are so blessed that she was part of our lives. We will miss her every day.
