Kenneth Garrett Obituary

Kenneth Garrett, 78, of Vinton, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2010. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all. He retired from CVS drug store. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Viola Garrett; and his brother, Wade Garrett. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Ruby Trent Garrett; his sons, Jeff (Mary Ann) Garrett, Steve (Belinda) Garrett and Davis Barbour; his daughters, Brenda Adkins, Genny (Dennis) Roberts and June (Jerry) Fore; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and his precious dog, Angel. Also surviving are his sisters, Wilma (Hanse) Thacker, and Alene (Herbert) Shipman; special brother-in-law, Jack Trent; special sisters-in-law, Lucy, Della and Lois; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Carilion Hospice or Vinton Baptist Church. A Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. William R. Booth officiating. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.
