Freddie Crockett Obituary

Freddie Lee Crockett, 67, of Salem, Va., passed away suddenly on August 31, 2010, at his home in Bedford, Va., with his wife, Gwen, by his side. Freddie was born May 29, 1943, to Edgar Lee Crockett and Emaline Grubb Crockett Cawley. His career consisted of working for the Salem Fire Department, Salem Police Department as an officer and detective, Roanoke County Sheriff's office as a detective, and Veteran's Administration in security. He also served in the United States Marine Corps. In his retirement, he loved the game of golf, especially the day he made two holes in one! Freddie became a cowboy, put on boots and a hat, and shared the love of horses with his wife. He had a way with animals and will be missed by Ellie and Ebony their horses. His sense of humor, wit, and laughter will be missed by everyone who knew him. Our world became a little sadder today. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Gwen Crockett; sisters, Judith Sanborn and husband, Roger, and Jeanie Minton and husband, Ron; sisters-in-law, Beth Bell and husband, Calvin, and Vicki Lee and husband, Gene; brother-in-law, Ethan Dogan; children, Brian Crockett and wife, Lisa, Lee Crockett, and Kelly Rowe; stepchildren, Kevin Huffman, and Kristen Reimer and husband, Troy; grandchildren, Tyler Crockett, Alaina Crockett, Trinity Rowe, Amanda Crockett, and Morgan Steen; stepgrandchildren, Bryson Reimer, Megan White and husband, Carl, and Bailey Reimer; and stepgreatgrandchildren, Emory and Tyson White. He leaves behind other very special family members and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 2, 2010, and Friday, September 3 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home in Salem to celebrate his life. There will be a private service on Saturday for the scattering of the ashes. Condolences to the family may be made at www.johnmoakey.com.
