Bernice Law Obituary

Bernice V. Law, 89, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 20, 2010. Bernice was born in Rich Creek, Va., in October 1920. She was raised in Giles County and was married to Raymond H. Law for 61 years. Bernice worked for the Celanese Plant in Narrows and also the Belk Store in Pearisburg. She recently worked for Food Lion in Roanoke for 10 to 12 years before retiring. Bernice moved from Narrows, Va., to Roanoke in 1987, to be close to her daughter and son-in-law. Ray and Bernice were loving parents who enjoyed life. They went on trips and vacations with their daughter and son-in-law to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and up state New York, the birthplace of Ray Law. They will be greatly missed. Ray Law was a retired Crane Operator. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Law; father, Fetter Blankenship; mother, Lillian Blankenship; brothers, Herman Rudolph Blankenship, Oscar Harold Blankenship and E. C. Blankenship. Bernice is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Sara Law, of Pearisburg, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Allen Beckner, of Roanoke, Va.; grandchildren, Spc. DeWayne Beckner and wife, Maritza, of Fort Hood, Texas, Kristina and Brandon Matney, of Roanoke; adopted in love grandchildren, Gregory Alouf and Stephen Alouf; great grandchildren, Christopher Beckner, Jisella Beckner and Yezenia Beckner; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Lewis-Gale PCU 3rd floor nurses for all their love and support. Also Dr. Jessica Jara, Dr. Vanessa Karri and Dr. Chetna JHA, Professional Homehealth Care for their wonderful love and support to Susan and Allen during the last few weeks, and very special friends, Dot Lamb, Evelyn Connors, Barbara and Steve Thompson and Faye Harris, and church family. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday May 29, 2010, at Valley Christian Church with Minister Johnnie Tickle and Minister Bob Brown officiating. The family will be receiving friends one hour before the service and anytime at 19 Clover Drive in Roanoke. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Bernice, to the Joy Valley Christian Women's Ministry. Arrangements are being handled by Oakey's North Chapel & Crematory, 540-362-1237.

Susan and family, I am sorry for your loss. Your mom was a sweet lady and I know you will miss her. Rest assured she has left her pain and worries behind and is reunited with your dad, until you see her again. God Bless you all.
