Beverly Cornett Obituary

Beverly McCrary Bowles Cornett died in Roanoke on Saturday, April 17, 2010. A well-known Roanoke painter, she studied with Theresa Pollock at Richmond Professional Institute and with Moya del Pino in San Francisco. She exhibited at the Roanoke Fine Arts Center, the Virginia Museum, the Hunter Gallery in Memphis, Hollins College, Virginia Tech, Art in the Alley and in other regional shows. A founding member and former teacher at the Roanoke Fine Arts Center, she is represented in private collections across the state. A daughter of the late McCrary Moir and Louis William Bowles, Beverly was also preceded in death by her brother, Louis William Bowles II. Survivors include her husband, Richard C. Cornett; and three children, Elizabeth Baker Oakey and husband, Samuel G. Oakey III, Paula Baker Stone and husband, John Stone, of McCleansville, N.C., Stephen W. Baker and wife, Lois. Other survivors include a brother, Virgil M. Bowles, Leesburg, Fla.; five grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. The family is grateful to those who provided loving care to Beverly at Pheasant Ridge Nursing Home. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Burial Park at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Taubman Museum, 110 Salem Avenue, Roanoke, Va. 24011 or to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.

Paula, Mitzi, Stephen and families-
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of yur mother. My mother gave me a picture not long ago of our parents dressed up in costumne for a party. Maybe Stephen, you were the one who gave it to her. I thought of that when I saw that your mother had died. The picture is how I remember her in my mind.
