Caleb Thomas East Sr.

Caleb Thomas East Sr., 84, of Maurertown, Va., formerly of Blacksburg, died Friday, April 30, 2010. Mr. East was born September 21, 1925 in Elliott, Va., the son of Samuel Thomas East Sr. and Rosa Lee Wood East. He married Myrtle Alene Davis on November 20, 1943, in Christiansburg, Va., where they lived and worked on the Lucas farm. They moved to Brookville, Md. in 1954 and worked as a tenant farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alene Davis East; brothers, Samuel East Jr. and Fred East; sisters, Zelma Reed, Dorothy Hoover, Effie Reed Conner, Pearl Lee East, Ruth Reed Neff and Gladys Hendrick; and stepmother, Lilly East. Surviving are sons and spouses, Caleb Thomas East Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Mt. Airy, Md., George Haven East and wife, Erica, of Barton, Md., and Lonnie Wayne East Sr. and wife, Judy, of Linden, Va.; daughters and spouses, Margaret Ann East Bennett, of Onego, W.Va., Nikita Rosa Lee East-Shipe and husband, Jerry, of Maurertown, Va., and Deborah Jane East Lauer and husband, Chris, of Williamsport, Md.; brother, Reuben East, of Blacksburg, Va.; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, Va. with the Rev. Kenneth Davis officiating. Burial will be in Refuge United Methodist Church Cemetery, Stephens City, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Project Life Saver, Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office, 109 W.
