Cecil Crotty Obituary

Cecil Emanuel Crotty, 78, of Narrows, Va., passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at the Riverview Nursing Home, Rich Creek, Va., after a long battle with Parkinsons. Born on November 30, 1931, at Princeton, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Hermon and Fannie Jane Marshall Crotty. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He had worked for the Virginian Railroad and the Celanese Corporation as a supervisor in Cig Tow and Bailing, where he retired with 32 years of service. Cecil was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pearisburg and a member of the Chancel Choir, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather. He loved music, fishing, his family and his dogs, Skippy and Precious. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Nannie Bele Meadows; and seven brothers, James, Lewis, Allen, Edward, Lee, Vernon and Clyde. Left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife of 31 years, Patricia Meredith Crotty; one son, Rick A. Crotty, of Narrows, Va.; one daughter, Lisa Crotty James and husband, Tom, of Lerona, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Candice and Tara James; one grandson, Ryan James and wife, Morgan; two greatgranddaughters, Leigha, Laken and Baby James, all of Lerona, W.Va.; and two sisters-in-law, June Crotty, of Kissimmee, Fla., and Joyce Crotty, of Temple, Texas. His family would like to thank, Drs. Paul and Pam Olson, Carilion Giles Community Hospital and Riverview Nursing Home for the tender care he was given. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church, Pearisburg, Va., with the Rev. Fred Austin and the Rev. Brad Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial gifts can be made to the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, 1101 Valley View Drive, Pearisburg, Va. 24134 or to the Narrows Fire Department, 137 Center Street, Narrows, Va. 24124.
