Delilah Gilliland Obituary

Delilah Snyder Gilliland, 94, of Shenango Senior Home, New Wilmington, Pa., formerly of Vance Rd., New Wilmington, died on Friday, April 9, 2010. Delilah was born on August 12, 1915, to Arthur and Clara Pollard Snyder of Sharon, Pa. Her mother died in 1918 of the "Spanish Flu" epidemic. At the height of the Depression, this pretty teen-aged girl went to a barn dance in Greenfield in 1932, and met the best square dancer there, Charlie Gilliland. They were married a year later, and from this union came six children: Mabel McGinnis Fischer (Richard), of Hermitage, Pa., Sally Moreno, of West Middlesex, Pa., Charlotte Nier (deceased (Grant/"Bud"), Linda Boyd (Wendell), of New Wilmington, Charles Gilliland (Cheryl), of Roanoke, Va., Jeffrey Gilliland (Kim), of New Wilmington. There are 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and four greatgreatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J., on December 25, 1989, and her daughter, Charlotte, as well as her parents, four brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by one brother and one sister. Delilah was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, Hermitage, Pa., and a former member of the New Wilmington Grange and New Wilmington Harvesters Club. She was a homemaker, and was employed by several New Wilmington businesses. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, and spending time with children, her greatest joy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ, 340 Sunset Blvd., Hermitage, Pa. 16148, or Shenango Senior Care, Benevolence Fund, 238 Market St., New Wilmington, Pa. 16142.
