Edna McAlexander Obituary

Edna May McAlexander, of Floyd, Va., passed away on Monday, February 2, 2009. Edna, the daughter of William Bruce Duncan and Isabella Baker Duncan, was born on March 17, 1924, in Sydney Australia. She met her late husband, John Floyd McAlexander, during World War II. They married and returned to the United States to begin their life together. After much traveling they settled in Floyd County, Virginia to raise their family. Edna had two children, the late Bruce John McAlexander and Marge McAlexander Alderman. Edna worked and worshipped the remainder of her life in Floyd County, Virginia. Through her jobs and her church she touched the lives of many people. She was outgoing, caring and giving and will be greatly missed by those who loved her and that most certainly will include anyone who had the honor of knowing her. Edna had many loved ones that will smile when they remember their "Nay Nay", a nickname bestowed upon her by her grandchildren. Her grandchildren include: Donna Marie Alderman-Willard, Tammy Jean Alderman Quesenberry, Cynthia Dawn McAlexander Crawford, April Elaine McAlexander Vaughn and Rebecca Ann McAlexander. Edna has many greatgrandchildren whom she treasured: Ashley Willard, Sierra Alderman, Brooke Quesenberry, Kayla Willard, Amber McAlexander, Dustin Quesenberry, Kelsey Vaughn, Bradley Vaughn, and Preston Vaughn. Special family and friends include: Donald Alderman, Rena McAlexander, Donnie Willard, Robert Boswell, and family. Tammy Lemons and all the staff at the Community Action and her friends at Calvary Baptist and Little River Baptist formed an extended family of whom she spoke and whom she loved very much. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and kindness during this trying time. We also urge you to remember that though this is a loss for us, this is just a continuance of the journey for Edna. We know she is happy as she sits in heaven being reunited with her loved ones who have traveled his road before her. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2009 at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Graham Mitchell and the Rev. Randy McDaniel officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in the Lee Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.maberryfuneralhome.comArrangements by Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, Va.
