James Howard Ferris

James Howard Ferris, 71, of New Castle, and formerly of Castle Craig, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, in Lewis-Gale Medical Center. He was the husband of Patsy Monaghan Ferris for 51 years. He was born June 1, 1939, in Campbell County, the son of the late Howard Lee Ferris and Annie Reynolds Ferris. He was a self employed cabinet maker, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid gardener. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Denise Mattox and her husband, Mike, of Altavista, and Amy Ferris, of Roanoke; two sisters, Hilda Efird and Husband Henry, of Naples, Fla., and Shelby Moses and her husband, Bobbie, of Amherst; and two granddaughters, whom he adored, Sarah and Emily Mattox. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, in the Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Pastor Kenny Davis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and other times at the residence of Mike and Denise Mattox, 5 Dogwood Lane, Altavista.
