Lula Eller Obituary

Lula Kate Shupe Eller, 86, of New Market, died Sunday, September 5, 2010 at Shenandoah Place. She was lovingly cared for the staff at Shenandoah Place and Blue Ridge Hospice. Lula Kate was born February 11, 1924 in Marion, Va., daughter of the late Josiah David and Elle Kate Goodman Shupe. She worked in the office at Harwood in Marion, Va. during her young adult life. She worked in clerical positions in her early married life as she moved with her husband during his Navy career. After the military years, she became administrator of a small Seventh-day Adventist hospital in Wytheville, Va. In 1964 she and her family moved to New Market and she began work in the office at Stonewall Jackson High School. Shenandoah Valley Bindery became her last career move, where she worked in the shop and managed the front office operations. One February 29, 1944, she married Arlen James Eller of Chilhowie, Va. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2008. She was also preceded in death by siblings Mary Lee Mannina, Betty Harris, Nettie Campbell, Sally Taylor, Edith Sage, William Shupe and J. D. Shupe Jr. Surviving are four daughters, Sandra Clatterbuck and husband, Dean, of New Market, Daphne Poblete, of Martinsburg, W. Va., Nancy Seigel and husband, Lyle, of Bunker Hill, W. Va., Anne Pound and husband, Dean, of Haymarket; grandchildren, Kimberly Morris, Jackie Poblete, Elizabeth Sedlitsky, Scott Poblete; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jacob and Joshua Sedlitsky, and Ashlyn Poblete. Also surviving are her siblings, Maria Smith, Jane Colley (Wiley), Joan Snider, Helen Heffinger (Wayne), and John Shupe, all of Southwest Virginia. She also cherished her many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held at the New Market Seventh-day Adventist Church on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 12 noon, with burial to follow at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Theis Funeral Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to National Parkinson Foundation, P. O. Box 801108, Charlottesville, Va. 22903, Attn: Mariam L. Hirsh or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork St., #405, Winchester, Va. 22601. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Theis Funeral Home of New Market, Va., 540-740-3312.

You are in our thoughts and prayers. You were greatly blessed to have two wonderful parents. I'll always remember the family reunions they hosted, it was a very special time. I loved to hear Aunt Lula Kate laugh. She'll be greatly missed.
