Margaret Scott Obituary

Margaret Virginia Tucker Scott, 92, of Fredericksburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2010. She was born in Lynchburg, Va. on December 31, 1917, the daughter of Paul Clifton and Margaret Shaw Tucker. Moving to Roanoke as a young child, she graduated from Roanoke City schools, attended Roanoke College and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Nursing. While a nursing student in Charlottesville, she met her husband, Bill Scott, a medical student at the University. After Dr. Scott's service in World War II and his postgraduate medical training, the family moved to Fredericksburg, his hometown, in December 1946. With her sweet and generous nature, her kindness, love and compassion, she was a truly beloved wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also a cherished friend, maintaining ties with childhood and nursing school friends, and sharing her time with close friends here in Fredericksburg. In recent years, she enjoyed making many new friends at the Chancellors Village community. Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. David William Scott Jr., her brother, Paul Clifton Tucker, Jr. and her granddaughter, Sarah King Scott. She is survived by three children, Dr. David William Scott III and his wife, Anne, of Fredericksburg, Paul Tucker Scott and his wife, De'Onne, of Fredericksburg, and Margaret Maria Scott Reading and her husband, Al, of Pledger, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Elizabeth Scott, of Tillson, New York, David William Scott IV and his wife, Teresa, of Denver, Colorado, Julie Tyler Scott, of Richmond, Cary Tucker Scott, of Fredericksburg, Desa Stone Olson, her husband, Stephen and children, Wade and Natalie, of Fredericksburg, Maria Collins Reading Twing, her husband, Shawn, and daughter, Kari, of Chelsea Vermont, and Margaret Gordon Reading Minter, her husband, Michael and children, Maddox and Maizy, of Missouri City, Texas. A graveside service will be held Monday, April 19, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Fredericksburg City Cemetery, with the Rev. Allen Fisher Jr. officiating. Following the service, the family will welcome friends at the home of Dr. and Mrs. David W. Scott III, 1100 Charles Street.
