Margie Bunbry-Clark Obituary

On Tuesday, April 27, 2010, an Angel came and said, "Margie come home, good and faithful servant, you have suffered long enough." Margie L. Bumbry-Clark, 85, of Roanoke, Va., was born on December 20, 1924, to the late Emma Bumbry and Sam Harris. She was united in marriage to the late John "Jewel" Clark. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, cousin and friend.

Margie was educated in the Roanoke City School System. She was a caregiver of young children in her home for many years. Margie was employed by LOA as a Foster Grandparent.

She was a faithful and dedicated member of Central Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Dr. Joseph A. Keaton. She was a Missionary, Usher, and a Sunday School worker.

Margie was preceded in death by her "devoted and loving son." William "Dump" Bumbry; stepson, Jerome "Chucky" Saunders; grandsons, Maurice Ferrell and Asadi Wiley; aunts, Eva Daniels and Katie Bumbry; and uncle, Howard Bumbry.

She leaves to cherish her memory, stepchildren, Kathy (Michael) Steptoe, of Richmond, Toby (Jesse) Brown, of Charlotte, N.C., Debbie Saunders and Wayne Saunders, both of Dallas, Texas, Shirley (Arnett) James, of Newark, N.J., and John William Saunders, of Roanoke; grandchildren, William Bumbry Jr., Gwen Barlow, and Denise Mann, all of Roanoke, Michelle Baker, of Florida, Sherri Saunders, Sherron (James) Mormon, Tasha (Ronelle) Baker, Kacelia Ferrell, and Tamita Saunders, all of Roanoke, Darryl Brown and Nicole Baker, both of Charlotte, N.C., Trina Saunders, of Jacksonville, Fla., Ebony Saunders, of Maryland, and Seidale Shipman, of Richmond; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; daughters-in-law, Mary Ferrell (caregiver) and Gaynail Saunders, both of Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Mildred Clark and Anita Bass, both of Roanoke, and Inez Wilson, of Milwaukee, Wis.; brother-in-law, Clarence Clark; uncle, Jack Daniels, both of Roanoke; a special cousin, James (Carolyn) Bumbry, of Roanoke; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the Carilion Pallative Unit and the Carilion Hospice for helping to take care of our loved one, Margie Clark.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010, at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Joseph A. Keaton officiating. The interment will be in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.
