I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of my dear friend, Norma Lugar. It was an honor to have gotten to know Norma when she interviewed me for articles in "The Roanoker" magazine. From there, we bonded over lunches sipping Cosmos and our mutual affection for golden retrievers. She once accompanied me to rescue two beautiful, very frightened goldens being kept in deplorable conditions in Franklin County. Norma always encouraged my writing and shared her list of typed writing tips she had held onto since her college days. She was quite a lady and Roanoke just doesn't feel the same today without her.

Until we meet again, Norma . . . please scratch my golden service dogs, Booker and Blake, under their chins and kiss them for me. If you don't become too busy in Heaven, perhaps you can help choose the puppies coming to Saint Francis Service Dogs. You know, I'm always recruiting volunteers wherever I can. I will miss you and all you have stood for, as will countless others.

Much Love Forever, Carol (Love from Doug & Licks from "Griffin", too)

She had such a bright and fun loving spirit that remains with those who shared these special years with her. I express my deepest sympathy to her family who have lost a treasure in life as she passes into eternity.

The Lugars used to sit behind my family at Lane stadium, back in the day when Tech couldn't half fill a 40,000 seat stadium. I probably haven't seen Ms. Lugar in 30 years, but the positive impression she left has never faded, and that says more about what kind of person she was than I could ever hope to put in words. Condolences to her family from all the Dyers.
