Phyllis was a wonderful woman and advocate for special needs children. My special needs son spent three years at Grandin Court REACH, and I appreciated every thing she did for him and for all the children.

I am sorry for the loss of your, daughter, sister and friend.
I met Phyllis when my daughter began kindergarten at Grandin Court.
I was impressed by how quickly she could call every student by name so early in the school year. She also had an uncanny ability to relay honest compassion and respect while asserting authority. Phyllis was an extraordinary woman passionate about her students staff and education. Her spirit will live on in the memories and hearts of those who knew her and the many lives she touched while on this earth.

"One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child." -- Carl Jung
This quote spoke to me of the reason my children and I found Phyllis such a great educator - she never lost sight of the souls of the children for whom she was responsible. What a loss her early passing is.

I've worked with many principals & Phyllis was the best. Her love for the children, concern for the staff, and care for the families of students and staff was amazing. She remembered everyone and cared about each of us and always greeted us with a smile - like we were the best thing to happen to her that day. I, and my family, have your family in our thoughts & prayers.

To the Cundiff family,

Phyllis was the principal at Grandin Court when all three of our boys attended there. During those twelve years we learned that she was passionate about what was best for the kids. She was tough, fair, caring, could be intimidating, but was always loving. She became our friend, and when our family recalls those years she is always a big part of those memories. We all have our favorite Ms. Cundiff story to share. She will always have a special place in our hearts for everything she did for us and our children and she will be greatly missed.

I would like to take the opportunity to express my sincere condolences in the passing of a wonderful and sincerely kind person.

Phyllis and I became Directors of Special Education in the same school year. We would share the good and bad experiences during our first few years; each being devoted to ensuring that our students with disabilities would be provided a good education.

Phyllis will be greatly missed but always appreciated for her strength and dediation to all that she endeavored to complete.

Ms. Cundiff was a treasure in our community. It was widely said that she knew the name of each child at Grandin Court Elementary, where she served as principal. That shows amazing commitment to the school and its children. She went out of her way to welcome my children there and do all possible to help them succeed. She was a treasure and a marvelous example. She has enriched my family and our community.
