Violet Jennings Obituary

Early in the morning of April 29, 2010, Violet Martin Jennings peacefully claimed the promise of the resurrection at Lynchburg General Hospital after a long battle with heart disease. She was the widow of William N. Jennings, who died March 15, 1994. They were married August 18, 1945. Born on August 15, 1918, in Montgomery County, Va., she was the youngest daughter of Joseph Ballard Martin and Roxanna Walters Martin. She was preceded in death by her five brothers, Follette, Oscar, Harry, Albert and Allen Martin; and her three sisters, Iva Scott, Myrtle Mark and Kluster "Kay" Ronk. Violet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother. She worked as a policewoman at the Radford Powder Plant during World War II. When the war ended, she became a housewife and mother. Her greatest accomplishment in her life was being an Avon representative for 46 years. During those years, she earned many awards and gifts for her sales and was a member of the President's Club for several years. Because of her failing health, she had to give up this career in 2007. She was a long time member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church and a member of the Elizabeth Harvey Sunday School Class of which she was the class Treasurer and then Secretary for many years. She loved her church family and greatly missed not being able to attend church in the past year. She is survived by her beloved children, Jeanette J. Seale and her husband, Ronnie, with whom she made her home for the past three years, and Joseph M. Jennings and his wife, Patricia; six grandchildren, Karen E. Beverly ( Marc), of Richmond, Jennifer J. Layne (Joey), Jason M. Jennings (Kian), Valerie M. Perrow, Marlene Y. Reid (David) and Grant W. Seale, all of Lynchburg; six greatgrandchildren, Olivia Beverly, Tyler Perrow, Abigail Perrow, Rodger Beverly, Brayden Jennings and Riley Seale; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Peter O'Brien and Dr. James Vanderwater for the excellent care they provided Violet as well as Hospice nurse, Connie Bailey, and her daytime caregiver, Glenda Price. Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Fort Hill United Methodist Church from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and others times at the home of her daughter. The funeral service will be on Monday, May 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Philip M. Waltz and the Rev. Janet D. Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Fort Hill United Methodist Church, 106 Oakridge Blvd., Lynchburg, Va. 24501 or The American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, Va. 23060 or a charity of your choice. Diuguid Funeral Service-Waterlick Chapel ( 237-2722 ) is serving the family. Online condolences may be sent to www.diuguidfuneralservice.com.
