Weathers Smith Obituary

Weathers Smith, 77, of Roanoke, Va., passed away peacefully on Friday, May 28, 2010 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 7, 1933. He was a faithful employee at the VA Medical Center until he retired. Weathers served in the United States Army and receive a Honorable discharge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mae Smith and brother, Russell Smith. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Jean Smith; six children, Lawrence (Virginia) Smith, Michael (Billie) Smith, Vickie (Randall) Pannell, Charles Smith, Sharon Smith, Bobby Smith; one sister, Shirley Phipps, all of Roanoke; one sister-in-law, Barbara Hancock, of Columbus Ga.; one brother-inlaw, Lewis (Deloris) Hayden, of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, Pamela Smith, Sheri Flint, Kayla Smith, Bobby Smith Jr., Alexandra Smith, Dishawn Flint, Michael Smith II and Kourtney R. Smith; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; nephews; nieces; cousins; and a host of many friends that loved him dearly. The family would like to Thank Good Samaritan Hospice for all of their love and support. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel with the Rev. Dr. John Washington officiating. Interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Friends may call on Tuesday afternoon for viewing at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.
