Hazel Furrow Nichols, 94, of Copper Hill, Va., passed away October 18, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Zora Furrow; her husband, Ernest R. Nichols; son-in-law, Berlin Flora; and grandson, Jeremiah Nichols. Surviving are daughters, Marie Flora, Pearl and Glenn Thomas; sons, Robert Nichols, Harold and Geneva Nichols, Larry and Brenda Nichols; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two greatgreatgrandchildren; sister, Dorothy and Leon Spradlin; brother, Ernest Furrow; sisters-in-law, Alberta Furrow, Ardella Furrow; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Vioma Nichols, Betty Conner, Sandy, and all who cared for her at South Roanoke Nursing Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 21, 2010, at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Maurice Wright officiating, with interment in the Adney Gap Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd.

Harold and the other family members. My wife and I sold produce next to Hazel and Mr. NIchols on the City Market for several years. They were both soft-spoken, gentle, and kind people. Their affection for each other was inspiring and born of many years together. She will be missed.
