Dear Bobby,
It was a high moment when the Class of '67 held it's 40th reunion on October 13, 2007. Returning home the next week and reflecting on who was there and who we missed seeing, I thought of Debbie. The sad news the following week brought back many memories of Debbie and the fun times at RMSHS. Her smile and laugh were priceless and all of us are blessed for having known her. My sincere sympathy to you and your family.

My deepest sympathy. I played with Debbie on Grandview Drive as a child. She was very special. One of my favorite memories was doing a craft project in the kitchen with her mother. I remember being very sad when the family transferred but kept the memories and always will. Blessings to the family.

I grew up in Ashland, KY on the street where Debbie's grandparents, Ruth and Jasper Slone, lived. Debbie and her family visited often and she and her brothers fit in with the neighborhood children like they were born there. I remember them well though I haven't seen them in many years. I have very fond and special memories of those times.

I have so many fond memories of Debbie during our childhood days when she and her family would visit her grandparents, Jasper and Ruth Slone in Ashland, Ky. We lived across the street from them. She was a smart and beautiful young lady, and I knew she would succeed in what ever she chose to do in life. I lost track of her through the years and thought of her and her family alot. I meet Debbie about 13 years ago. The company I worked for provided the meals for the Meals on Wheels program. She was such a compassionate person and so soft spoken. I remember her caring so much about the quality of the meals and the care of the receipants receiving those meals. We can not imagine what your family must be going through but please know that people you don't know are praying for you daily. Only the Lord can comfort you during this time. Oh! how sweet heaven will be now...God Bless you all!

I don't have any words that are good enough but I do want you all to know that I am praying for you and you have my deepest, deepest, sincerest sympathy that I can possibly give. This is such a tragic loss of life, somebody that was doing so much good for so many people.
I pray that God will give you the comfort and the strength that you need to get through this and in the days ahead. He will, just lean on Him, talk to Him, talk to Debbie, she is listening, she will comfort you as well. I know this because my dad comfots me and he has been gone 26 years this year. Her spirit will always be with you all and live in your hearts forever.
God bless and let me know if there is anything I can do for you all other than pray.
Mr. Kornegay, your dad was a very special person also. Your dad and Dr. Lem took care of me quite a few times and in surgery twice.
I am sorry to hear of their passing as well. They were fine people and they were fine doctors.

Like so many others, I am shocked and deeply saddened by this senseless loss. I grieve not only the loss of a wonderful woman, so willing to give but the loss of companionship for Bobby, guidance for Ana and Bo, care for Frank and Pat, and love for all. While the void of such a loss can never be filled, we can celebrate and be comforted by our gratitude for the person Debbie was and that she was yours for a time, so precious to you and to so many others.
Although our personal connection was lost some twenty-five years ago, please know that you have certainly been in my heart and fervent prayers over these past several days. You will continue to be in my prayers as you begin your healing journey. How grateful I am that we worship and serve a God that can sustain us, even through these darkest hours and days. Having traveled that road I can assure you that you can trust in His care.

In those innocent years growing up in Rocky Mount, we had many "best friends", many trips to the Oakwood Pharmacy, then the Goody Shop, lots of double-dates, lots of happy times.
Neither time nor distance can change the special place in my heart where Debbie has been and alwyays will be.
What has happened defies understanding; perhaps one day we'll be allowed to glimpse the mystery of His plan, just as she surely does now.

We met Debbie as we developed a series of photos to use for the scripture, "You are the Potter, we are the clay." She graciously allowed us to photograph her at the potter's wheel as she formed a beautiful pottery vase. We used those photos many times. Her graceful hands reflected her graceful spirit to share her talents. Our hearts are sad over this senseless tragedy.
