Joseph Cote Obituary

Joseph Gerard Cote
1/24/1959 - 10/25/2010

Joseph Gerard Cote grew up in Auburn California, attended Saint Joseph School and Placer High School. He attended Phoenix Institute of Technology, where he majored in Architecture. Joseph died in San Diego, California, where he lived with his wife Brenda and two children, Aaron and Ellen. Aaron is a freshman at California Polytechnic University, Pomona, majoring in Architecture. Ellen is a junior attending Scripps High School where her academic interests include art.
A devoted father, Joe loved taking his family camping, and taking Aaron and his schoolmates surfing after school and on weekends. Joe was a faithful son and a cherished brother, cousin, nephew, and uncle – dearly loved by all his family. He consistently was upbeat, gregarious, and fun to be with. His joy in life was infectious.
Joe was a Licensed Architect (AIA), and was a Design and Construction Project Leader for the Navy in San Diego. Joe and his team developed world-class facilities for US Marines - including dormitories, dining halls, administrative and recreational facilities. He built more that 30 of these new facilities, each supporting over 400 marines. Joe also created a continuous-improvement program, whereby each new facility benefits from lessons-learned from previous ones – ensuring our Marines will continue to have the very finest support. His efforts and creativity ensured the Navy and the American taxpayer received the very best facilities for the nearly $2 Billion spent - the largest build-up of the Marine Corps since World-War II. This program, dubbed "Best Of Breed" is now being incorporated across the nation.
Joe will be deeply missed, and is survived by his wife and two children, sister Theresa two brothers, Tom and Paul and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was the youngest of four children of Adhemar and Pauline Cote.
Joseph's funeral was held at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church in San Diego, Calif., on Friday, October 29, 2010. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Joseph's name to Suicide.Org, on-line or at 122 I Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910.

Brenda, Aaron and Ellen. What sweet memories I have of all of you and visiting your home. The fun of your photos as you have grown together as a family, and recently on facebook sharing so many wonderful times and adventures. Nothing can replace these memories.I know words can never fill the empty space in your hearts, just know my heart is with you and will be for the months and years to come. Love you dearly. Barbara

Brenda, Aaron & Ellen. My heart goes out to you so deeply. We shared so many memories together as families and I will never forget what an important role your family has played in our lives. We may not be with you now, but grieve so much for your loss. Ours too.

Not a day has gone by that I haven't thought of you all. In fact, I cannot open up my silverware drawer without thinking how annoyed Joe would be that my spoons & forks were not perfectly stacked. ;) I try and keep them neatly stacked now and say a special prayer for Joe each time I do.

I can remember Austin saying as a very little boy, simply, "I like Joe." We all did, and always will. A good, honest, sweet man, always willing to lend a hand and an expert on so many things. Joe will be forever in our hearts.

love to you all, Mindy, Mark, Austin & Aidan Carter

Thanks Jack for the thoughts. I was hoping to be at Joe's retirement party not his funeral. I am still shocked and saddened by the loss of such a tallented and caring person.

My condolences to all the Cote family members.
You recently lost your mother, who I remember well, and
now your brother. I went to grammar school with Tom (Theresa and Paul were younger), and our fathers worked together at McClellan field. I'd love to hear from you,
Tom, if you're out there.
Sincerely, Jack Demes

I'd known Joe since the first grade through high school but lost touch with him over the last many years. I'll never forget what an incredibly talented artist he was from a very early age. I'm saddened by this tragic news. My condolences go out to his wife, children, brothers & sister.
Rest easy buddy.

I met Joe in early 2000 when I went to work for AVRP in Sorrento Valley. He was a quiet, gentle man - very knowledgeable in his field. He loved his family. My condolences to his wife and children.
