Myra Jeanette Garcia (Middleton) born July 21, 1926 in Davenport, Iowa to parents Ella Shultz-Thode and Carl Thode. Preceded in death by her brother Roland Thode and sister Evelyn Ehenke. Survived by her daughter Myra Lyn Batdorf (Young) of Medford, Oregon, nephew Robert Thode of Sonora, California, and niece Ruth Wolf of Davenport, Iowa.
Jeanette as she was called, at times, reminisced with friends about her childhood on the family farm in Davenport, Iowa. The family's survival depended on the hard work of all family members. On the farm the family grew vegetables and kept farm animals. She recalled severe winters where a path from the house to the barn would be dug in the snow and maintained so the animals could be tended. She added, in the morning someone would have to break the ice at the water trough so the cows could drink. Though Jeanette described farming as hard work she was proud of the work ethic she developed. This served her well throughout her life.
Jeanette owned her own beauty salons, first in Alameda, California and later in Auburn, California before retiring to her home and garden in Meadow Vista, California. Active in the Foothills Quilting Guild and Foothills Iris Society she maintained an active life after retirement.
She resided at Oakwood Village Assisted Living for her remaining years and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and friendly people. Jeanette passed in her sleep on January 8, 2011 at Siena Care in Auburn, California. She will be missed by her many friends and the many people she touched throughout her life.
