Riley Lane Obituary

Riley Keller Lane
1/27/1919 - 10/19/2010

Riley was born in Minneapolis to Dwight and Martha Lane. He grew up in Minnetonka Minnesota and attended the University on Minnesota School of Agriculture. He worked at Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company in Baltimore until joining the Navy during World War II. He served as a radar operator on a Navy destroyer in the Pacific, seeing action on Okinawa and Iwo Jima. After serving in the Navy he moved to California and married Louise Peterson in 1946, whom he had known since childhood. Following World War II, he worked as personnel director for an electronics company in Los Gatos. And, later he worked for the Saratoga Post Office. Upon his retirement from the Post Office he moved to Auburn in 1985.
Riley enjoyed working with his hands and built his own home in Los Gatos. He had a talent for music and played the musical saw and glasses and loved to sing. He always enjoyed photography and when he was in his 80's he learned how to use the computer and made a complete photo-history of the Lane family.
He is survived by Louise, his wife of 64 years, son Steve (Diane) Lane of San Jose, daughter Kathy (Jim) Omand of Sacramento, grandchildren Susanna, Dwight and Darryl of San Jose, step-grandson Steve (Tami) Omand of Sacramento and step-grandchildren James, Max, and Bella of Sacramento.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1279 High St. Auburn where a memorial service will be held Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. Donations can be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
