Robert Viands Obituary

ROBERT L. VIANDS NORA M. VIANDS ROCKFORD - Robert L. and Nora M. Viands entered into eternal life together on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Fairhaven Health Center, surrounded by family. Robert died first, and exactly sixteen hours later Nora joined him. Together in June they celebrated 71 years of marriage. Robert worked for over 30 years as a Watkins Distributor and then retired as a U.S. Rural Postal Carrier. He loved fishing, and gardening and was always proud to showcase his tomatoes, sharing them with all family and friends. He took pride in the home he built and the family he raised. Nora was so devoted to her family. She loved a little flavor of the casinos and enjoyed playing cards. Nora was very proud of her 25 years of service to St. Bridget's, not only as an educator, but a cheerleading coach and facilitator for the altar servers. Survivors include their children, Bill (Kaysandra), Bob Jr. (Valerie) Viands, Barb (Kent) Milton, Beverly and Betty Viands; 18 grandchildren; and many loving great and great-great-grandchildren. Robert is survived by sister, Helen Dannenberger. Predeceased by two sisters, Mildred Viands and Virgie Adams. Nora is survived by sister, Eileen. Predeceased by brothers, Jack, Chuck and Richard Schaddel and sister, Marianne. Combined services at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Rockford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd. Visitation from 1 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center or the residence fund at Fairhaven Health Center. To express condolences visit honquestfh.com.

I was blessed to know Bob and Nora (to me Mr. and Mrs. Viands, (as I met them when I was a teenager), as a good friend of their daughter Bev. I was always welcomed at their house. They opened up their home to me and always made me feel warm and relaxed. I will always treasure those moments. Bev, Bob, Bill, Barb and Betty you are so blessed to have them as your parents. I send my love, prayers and thoughts to all of you.

I didn't know your parents but I felt compelled to extend my sympathies to you and your family. My parents too were inseperable: married 66 years my dad passed away on March 23rd and my mom followed on April 21st. The pain for us remaining is immeasurable but I look at their passing in this way as a gift from God. Neither one could have handled life without the other.

This bittersweet story touched my heart. I too am a child of a very special couple. I know you will miss your parents but will find comfort in their love and devotion to each other.

My parents were married a few months short of 60 years when they passes away. My Mom, Rita died November 13,2011. It broke my Dad's (Paul) heart and he passed on Thanksgiving Day, the 24th. It's terrible for you, like us, to go thru this. Yet it's bittersweet because they were so much a part of each other. May God Bless your family and may you find peace in all the wonderful memories.
