Arlene Nicolls Obituary

arlene a. nicolls, 63 DELMAR, Iowa - Arlene A. Nicolls, of Delmar, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, in the University of Iowa Hospital. Born Jan. 21, 1948, in Sioux City to Arlo and Virginia (Ryan) Witters. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, later Heelan High School and graduated from Harlem High School in Machesney Park, Ill. She married Tom Nicolls on Nov. 4, 1967, in Sioux City. Arlene also resided in Kirkland and Rockford, Ill. She moved to Delmar in 2006 when she retired from Hamilton Sundstrand in Rockford after being employed for more than 25 years. She was a current member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Delmar. Arlene enjoyed reading, bird watching, gardening, crossword puzzles, canning and was an avid Cubs fan. She cherished being with her grandchildren, and living life to the fullest. Survivors include husband, Tom of Delmar; daughter, Kim (Doug) Livingston of Loves Park, Ill.; son, Brian (Maureen) Nicolls of Stillman Valley, Ill.; grandchildren, Nicole and Nolan Livingston; brother, Edward (Loreth) Witters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents and a twin brother at birth. Service at 1 p.m. Monday, May 9, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Craig Collison officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 8, in Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel, with a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.
