EVANGELINE 'VANGIE' CHRISTINE FORCE, 102 BELVIDERE - Evangeline "Vangie" Christine Force, 102, of Belvidere died Thursday, May 19, 2011, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center after a short illness. Vangie was born Sept. 24, 1908, in Melrose Park to William and Christine (Christensen) Force. She graduated from Union Grade School, Northern Illinois State Teachers College (NIU) and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois. Vangie was a teacher and retired as a librarian from the Ida Public Library. She enjoyed working in her yard and gardening, was an avid Cubs fan and loved to read. Vangie will always be remembered for her independence, living in her own home until the last week of her life. She loved her family immensely and was a tremendous caregiver to her sister, Frannie. She is loved and will be missed by her nieces, Kris (Jack) Spate and Noel (Richard) Lewis; nephew, Jan Goranson; great-nieces and -nephews, Karin (Glenn) Herrmann, Cathy (Scott) Martin, Brian (Clarissa) Lewis, Lisa (Billy) Wheeler and Jaysen Goranson; eight great-great-nieces and -nephews. Predeceased by her parents; brothers, Delos and Kenneth; and sister, Frances Goranson. Graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, in Union Cemetery, Union. Visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Monday in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. A memorial will be established in Vangie's name with the Ida Public Library.
