Kenneth Diehl Obituary

KENNETH W. DIEHL, 89 LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER AND GREAT-GRANDFATHER WINNEBAGO - Kenneth W. Diehl, 89, of Winnebago went to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, in SwedishAmerican Hospital, after a brief illness. Born June 3, 1921, in Leaf River, the son of Melvin and Florence (Price) Diehl. He graduated from Leaf River High School in 1939, and served in the Marine Corps, Pacific Ocean Theatre, during World War II. Married Agnes Bridgeland on Dec. 14, 1946, in Middle Creek Presbyterian Church. Ken was a farmer in the Seward area his entire life. He was a woodworker, a craftsman, and loved using his hands; he could fix almost anything. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, reading and restoring farm tractors and engines. Active member of Rockford First Assembly Church, and he loved serving in his church as an usher and a greeter. In his community he served on the Winnebago County Farm Bureau and was a former Winnebago School District board member. Ken dearly loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by them, including his wife, Agnes Diehl of Winnebago; daughter, Susan Miller, of Whiting, N.J.; sons, John (Lari) Diehl and Wayne (Judy) Diehl, both of Winnebago; grandchildren, Robert, David and Steven Miller, Jamie Bell, Lindsey Dykstra, Kelly Miller, Bryan Diehl, Bethany Petillo, Rebekah Diehl and Joel and Jessica Kloster; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Aiden Bell and Blake Dykstra. Predeceased by sister, Eleanor Aukes; son-in-law, Robert Miller; daughter-in-law, Lori Diehl; and grandson, Matthew John Diehl. Ken's legacy is his love of God, family, and his country. For these things our family will be forever grateful to have had this legacy handed down to us. Service at noon Friday, Feb. 11, in the auditorium at First Assembly Church, 5950 Spring Creek Road, Rockford, with visitation from 10:30 a.m. to service time; Pastors Bob Taylor and Walter Pope will officiate. Burial in Middle Creek Cemetery, Winnebago. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. Arrangements by Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago. Agnes and family,
Virginia and I were saddened to hear of the death of Ken. We know what a great loss this is and you’re family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Virginia recalls that Ken was a member of the school board when she attended Winnebago schools and I can remember very clearly Ken showing up for Church projects. One in particular that I remember was when the church was about to plant grass, Pastor Whitcomb asked the congregation to show up and pick up the rocks that were in the area where the grass was to be planted and bring your own bucket. While I showed with a 5 gallon plastic bucket, Ken showed with a very unusual bucket, it was a coal bucket and without much talking, got right to work gathering the thousands of rocks that needed to be picked up. I would guess that coal bucket is still around.
Agnes, I know you and your family have a legacy of memories about Ken and he can’t be replaced; but memories are good in that remembering the good times, helps heal the sorrow that you are all experiencing at this time.
Fortunately, we have a blessed hope in Jesus and we can take comfort in that someday we all will be reunited with our love ones in Heaven.
Unfortunately Virginia and I have a long standing appointment in Madison that will prevent us from attending the service on Friday.
Wishing you and your family God’s Peace,
George and Virginia Biavati
