RICHARD L. JOHNSON, 82 KENDALLVILLE, Ind. - Richard L. Johnson, 82, of Kendallville, formerly of Rockford, Ill., died Monday, May 30, 2011, in Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville. Born Dec. 29, 1928, in Rockford, the son of Axel and Emelia (Johnson) Johnson. Married Beverly Reno on Dec. 16, 1960, in Rockford. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. Richard was employed by the Federal Aviation Agency for 35 years. He was an air traffic controller at Meigs, Midway and O'Hare airports, all in Chicago, and retired as a training officer from the Rockford airport. He was a member of American Legion Post 381, Rome City. Survived by wife, Beverly Johnson of Sylvan Lake, Ind.; daughter, Victoria (Les) Scheiss of Monroe Center, Ill.; son, Dr. Greg (Carolyn) Johnson of Sylvan Lake, Ind.; grandchildren, Jeff (Jenny) Scheiss, Anna (Todd) Clark, Kathryn Schiess, Hannah Johnson and Nathaniel Johnson; great-grandchildren, Luke Schiess and Eric Schiess; and sister, Margaret Wallschlaeger of Florida. Predeceased by brothers, Ed, Gunner, Evar and Melvin Johnson. Service at 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with visitation from 12 to 1:45 p.m. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
