Elizabeth Hewey Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Elizabeth M. Hewey, 79, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at Springfield Hospital.

She was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, the daughter of Clarence and Pauline (Dorsey) Doughty. She attended schools in Maine.

She lived in Valdez, Alaska, for 17 years, moving to Springfield five years ago. While in Alaska she was active in a senior center, and helped out at a teen center. She was employed as a deli clerk at Safeway, and also cleaned homes for many years.

She enjoyed fishing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include six sons, Clifford Doughty of North Springfield, Douglas Liberty Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas, Andrew Liberty of Springfield, Clarence Liberty of Waynesville, Mo., Kevin Liberty of Keene, N.H., and Robert Liberty of Massachusetts; two daughters, Sharlene Allen of Springfield, and Melissa Barrow of Proctorsville; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence Doughty Jr. of Darlington, S.C., Phillip Doughty of Contoocook, N.H., and Kenneth Doughty of Peters Creek, Alaska; two sisters, Sandra Silverman of Warwick, R.I., and Berle Martin of Florida; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother Thomas, and by two sisters, Alice and Dorothy.

At her request, there will be no services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
