Jean Scarzello Obituary

A woman stands at her dining room window, admiring the chickadees and red cardinals at the bird feeder. Her eyes shine with the morning light. Children are laughing in the distance. Smiling, she remembers the sounds of her own seven children ringing through the house.

Jean's life is filled with children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. The beloved matriarch of two feisty generations and the surrogate mother and caretaker of many relatives, in-laws and friends, her life is full of love.

Her nature is to nurture in her own special way and share her love through food. Mom's kitchen is always abuzz with some culinary project for this person or that group.

Her unselfish heart is devoted to family, friends and her deep Catholic faith; she knows Jesus is her savior. Her love is quiet and abiding - her strength is our strength. While she will be missed, her spirit lives on in the lives of everyone she touched, bringing them a sense of contentment knowing she is in heaven with her dearly departed husband, Lou, and her son, Louis.

We are thankful that this woman is our mother.

Jean was born in New York City, the eldest daughter of Peter and Victoria (Leva) Frola. She married Lou, the love of her life, and they had seven children. After Lou passed away in 1989, Jean moved to the log home Lou built in Wallingford, Vermont, and lived there until her decision in 2005 to get off the mountain and move to Rutland.

Jean is survived by her children and their spouses, Chris and Mike, Terri and Donn, Jean and Bob, Michael and Cheryl, Maria and Chris, Robert and Eileen; grandchildren Isaiah, Tyler, Gregory Louis, Tori, Matthew, Zachary, Daniel, Sachie and Robin; sister Rose and brother Peter.

A wake will be held Friday, February 1, 2013, 4-7 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home, 2 Washington St., Rutland, VT 05701.

A Catholic Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 2, 2013, 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 66 South Main St., Rutland, VT 05701. Following Mass, there will be a reception.

In lieu of flowers, Jean's family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Weston Priory, 58 Priory Hill Road, Weston, VT 05161.

Jean was a vital part of our bible group begun over 20 years ago. We remained friends and shared our faith stories all these years even though we did not live that near to one another. Four of us had annual birthday celebrations and as Judy said "we walked her home right up to the Gate of Heaven and said goodbye for now"

I have known Mrs. Scarzello and the whole clan since I grew up at Sleepy Hollow Day Camp some 36 year ago, how time flies!! I can remember times and interactions with every member of her family, I remember helping Mr Scarzello with various projects at the home on Sleepy Hollow Rd. and at camp, I think of him often, i was just mentioning hime to my brother Michael(aka "The Fly", that nickname from Mike Scarzello, we were speaking of him just the other day. I can still picture Mrs. S. in shorts at camp as clear as if it was yesterday. Your family shaped and touched me deeply, GOD BLESS, Steven.
