Jason Allen Obituary

Jason Richard Allen, 35, of Rutland died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born on August 9, 1979, in Rutland, the son of Bobby E. and Pamela P (Salmon) Allen.

Mr. Allen graduated from the Rutland Town Elementary School in 1993 and the Miller River Union High School in 1997. He was a member of the MRUHS band, soccer team, basketball team and baseball team. While in school he excelled in sports, especially baseball and soccer.

He graduated from Siena College in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Mr. Allen became employed at the Rutland County Sheriff's Department in November 2002. He attended and graduated from the Vermont Police Academy, earning several awards including The Training Assistant Award and the Absolute Straight Award.

As a member of the Sheriff's Department he was awarded sheriff's honors and deputy honors. He earned the rank of sergeant and became a member of the command staff.

He was also a field training officer and a training assistant at the academy, where he enjoyed mentoring and training new police professionals.

Mr. Allen was a member of the Vermont Police Association, the Rutland United Methodist Church and its hand bell choir and children's choir. He had been a member of the American Legion Post 31 baseball team.

He enjoyed volunteering at the Open Door Mission with his daughter Arianna.

Mr. Allen enjoyed skiing, hiking, camping, biking and music.

Survivors include two daughters, Arianna Kelley and Malia Allen; his mother Pamela Allen, his soul mate Danielle Miller, and the mother of his children Amanda Kelley, all of Rutland; a half-brother Marc Allen of Georgia; two aunts, an uncle and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his father in 1998.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at the Vermont Police Academy, 317 Academy Road, Pittsford, VT 05763. Services will follow at 5 p.m. Friday at the Academy.

Arrangements are by the Aldous Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jason R. Allen Memorial Fund (to establish a professional law enforcement award), c/o Aldous Funeral Home, 44 North Main Street, Rutland, VT 05701.

So very sorry for our loss, everyone's loss. For Jason was a person that had qualities we should all have. I knew and worked with his dad many years ago and also worked with Jason at times through my job at RRMC. A great friend, well respected sheriff and I know a
wonderful dad. He will be missed but never forgotten.
