Mary C. Daley, mother, friend to many and former first lady of Rutland, 90, died May 11, 2015, at The Meadows at East Mountain. She was dedicated to her family and her large community of friends.

A Rutland original, she was born Feb. 18, 1925, to James and Marie (Tree) Creed.

Mary was a 1942 graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy and a graduate of the Rutland Hospital Nursing School. Mary became a registered nurse at Rutland Regional Medical Center, where she focused her attention in the maternity ward. She was passionate about assisting first-time mothers and remains known in the community for her kind heart and sage advice. After her retirement in 1987 she enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her ever-growing family.

She married John J. "Jack" Daley on June 7, 1947, in Christ the King Church. In addition to Jack's political success as Mayor of Rutland and Lt. Governor of Vermont, the two were proud parents of 11 children. Mary and Jack were able to celebrate 53 years of marriage just before his death, June 15, 2000.

Surviving are 2 sons, Michael Daley of Rutland and James Daley of Washington, D.C.; 8 daughters: Patricia Snyder of Shelburne, VT., Linda DiTullio of Hingham, MA, Judy Daley of Rutland, Suzanne Daley Almodovar of Rutland, Mary Jane Samach of Saratoga, NY, Maureen Pavik of Norcross, GA, Lisa John of Bar Harbor, ME, and Sharon Daley of Cincinnati, OH; a sister Patricia Noyes of Rutland, many wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, John J. "Jack" Daley; a daughter, Nancy Kilmurry, and a granddaughter, Sarah Snyder.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, in Christ the King Church.

Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount St. Joseph Academy Development Fund, Convent Ave, Rutland, VT 05701, or a charitable organization of choice.
