John HENEY Obituary

HENEY, John Arthur
John, known as Jack to his family, was born on April 19, 1924 in Montpelier, Vermont, and passed peacefully away on November 12, 2012, at age 88 at his daughter's home in Folsom, California.

Jack recognized his talent and passion for drawing at an early age, and, following service in WW II, graduated with a BFA from California College of the Arts, known then as California College of Arts and Crafts. Jack worked at Aerojet General Corp as a technical illustrator for more than 35 years, his work an integral part of many publications, including Flying magazine. He did freelance design work as well, and continued to love painting, drawing with pen and ink as well as charcoal, and in his later years, carving wood into animals.

Jack joined the US Army in 1942, and was stationed in Germany, working as a medic and x-ray technician at an Army hospital in Heidelberg. He was proud to serve his country, and of being a part of the Color Guard that honored General George Patton after his death in 1945.

Jack married Luella Beach on August 6, 1949 in Santa Rosa, California. They had three sons: John, Michael and Matthew, and one daughter, Anne. Jack and Lue were devoted to each other, and had celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in August of this year. Jack spent many happy years instilling a love for the outdoors in his children, including skiing in the winter, and hiking and camping in the summer. All of which were easily done from a home base in Pollock Pines.

John leaves behind his wife Lue, his 4 children and their spouses, as well as 4 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and 10 great grandchildren. He will be truly missed, but his spirit lives on in the wonderful drawings, paintings and carvings that fill many homes, most especially the homes of his family.

A funeral mass will be said at St. John the Baptist church in Folsom, California at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 16th. Remembrances in his honor may be made to the Yosemite Conservancy, or another charity of your choice.
