I was so sad to hear of Stephen's passing. As his journalism professor at American River College in the mid-1990s, I spent many hours every week working with him and, sadly, mourning with him as well. I have always recalled him as a very earnest, hard-working and devoted person with a great sense of humor. He loved to learn, and he cared about people. Although our community has lost a truly fine person, I will always remember Stephen. I extend my condolences to Stephen's family and friends.

Stephen is my nephew and I enjoyed him a lot; he always brightened our family dinners and get togethers with his wit and charm. His poetry came from his heart and flowed onto paper. I most enjoyed watching him with his daughters who were the light of his life. He cared for them effortlessly from the time they were newborns. He'd rather spend the day caring for the girls and cleaning than to go Christmas shopping. He loved bass fishing most, but now and then I could get him to go trout fishing with me. We fished in Bishop one time and he covered more ground and caught more fish than I did; he even caught two king snakes within 15 minutes of arriving at the river. He put out many invitations to Grandma and I to fish "his lake" and I wish we would have taken the time to do that with him. If ever Grandma and I needed help with something, he was there to do it. Stephen has left a forever void in our family. He moved fast as if he knew he only had so much time with us. He is definitely with the angels, his unborn son, Grandma and Grandpa Baetge, Uncle Howard and Grandpa Price, and he will be waiting for us saying "come on, you gotta see this...you won't believe it."
