We just heard about Gene's passing. We remember his and Billie's smiles and laughter as the extended family got together back at Christmastime 2013 in San Diego. Much love!

Riding my bicycle down Farmington Way, Sacramento in the mid 70's is the first time I laid eyes on Mr. Gene Bobinski. The pretty brick work on his house caught my attention, and when I looked up I saw a tall, slender, and friendly man mowing his front lawn. Back then he struck me as a hard working man. I would have never thought in a million years that Gene's family and I would have crossed paths again 40 years later living less than 2 miles apart for 28 years! It definitely is a small world indeed. Matt and I had the rare and special opportunity to be in Gene's life for a short period of time since last Easter. It was an Easter that I will never forget as Gene was polite, sincere, and a caring man that made us feel very welcome in his home as well as his life. When Gene mentioned that it would be nice for Matt and I to be friends with him and Billie, it really touched our hearts. We are so appreciative that we had a wonderful opportunity to spend a lot of time together even though; unfortunately, it was only for a brief seven months. We truly believe special people like Gene enter our lives for a reason. We will always remember Gene's loyal friendship and his special humor that he shared. He certainly brought a lot of laughter into our lives and our home. I was honored to be present when Gene took his last breath and departed to a better place. May you rest in peace Gene and remember you are loved.

Gene was the best father to my wife, father-in-law to me, and grandfather to our son Travis. I will miss him dearly, but he will be with me an eternity through wonderful memories that we created together.
We had wonderful times fishing, chatting or just working on projects. I will never forget the time we were anchored in his boat fishing at Sly Park Lake, when we decided to start trolling. Gene hoisted the rear anchor but I forgot to hoist the forward anchor. Shortly after starting to troll for trout we both thought we had a fish on at the same time. Weren't we surprised to find both our lines wrapped around the forward anchor which was trailing behind us. What a mess!! It took Gene about half an hour to untangle our lines, but he did. I was amazed, having thought that we should just cut the lines and tie new rigs. But not Gene, he had the patience to stick with it and get it done. That was a common trait through his life.
Rest in peace Gene!!

I had just been thinking of Gene lately. Shocked to see his obituary in today's Bee.
I think it was after Gene's death already that I was thinking of him.

My Dad, My Hero
You held my hand
when I was so small
You caught me when I would fall
You are the hero of my childhood
And in my later years you were my hero as well.
And every time I think of you
My heart still fills with pride so true
Though I will always miss you Dad
I know you are always by my side
Whispering in my ear ~ I love you so!
In laughter and in sorrow
In sunshine and through rain
I know you are watching over me
until we meet again!
With love from your little princesses ~
I love you with all my heart . . .

Even though I only met Gene once, I really enjoyed the time I spent with him. He was such a genuine person and he sure knew how to make everyone around him laugh. My heart goes out to his loved ones.
