To Family and Friends - Especially to Susan's children and sister, I assure you that Susan's bright light continues to illuminate places in my life. A special friend in ways beyond words, I know you hold her in your heart and miss her to this day. I have learned that I do not "get over" losing people in my life. Instead I learn how to take them with me. And I keep Susan in my heart and send you all love and thoughts about her wonderful ways. Bleas you all. Love, Nancy Hedlund, Honolulu

I miss her sooooooooo much!!!!!!!

Susan's approach to life continues to inspire many of us who loved her. I carry her with me as I move along my life path. I have now had to face the illness she faced and am regularly grateful for the love, wisdom and humor she shared in our friendship. She was teaching me how to live with the challenges of chemotherapy, medical things and the fears that emerge with illness. And she was teaching me to see the opportunities in her experiences so that I would, in turn, be able to do this in my own life and be able to pass this gift on to others. I give thanks to God for the gift of Susan's friendship and will always cherish the years we knew each other in Hawai'i as part of the "Here We Go Again" support group. As always, much love and aloha to all of you, Kathy, her dear children, and the friends who loved her so much -- Nancy, Friend in Honolulu

As a new year begins, it is important to remember special friends who have shared their love and wisdom with us and made our lives better. Susan was such a friend to me for many years and I still tell her story to people when I encounter someone in need of courage who momentarily forgets to see their own inner strength. I tell them about how brave and enduring Susan was in her dynamic engagement with life in all its realms. She cared so deeply for people and was so unselfish in her ways of sharing her affection and her hard-won discoveries about survival. May we all be of the same courage and joy and affection for others throughout the 2011 year! Much love to all of you in Susan's family - children, sisters, friends.

Dear Family and Friends of Susan - It is now 2010 and hard to believe that time zooms along as it does. I still have wonderful vivid memories of Susan and our friendship in the 90's and into this century. And I still miss her and tell people about her who need the inspiration she showed us all. Susan was a bright light in my life for many years and I will always believe I was so very privileged to know her and love her. She knew how to live! And how to be happy in many different moments and events in life, even when transcendence was deeply necessary if one was to demonstrate happiness. Much love and aloha to all of you, Kathy, her dear children, and the friends who loved her so -- Nancy Hedlund, Honolulu, February 11, 2010.

I was so saddened to hear and then read of Sue's passing. Knowing her as a teenager through our high school years at La Sierra, I recall her always having a smile and a sparkle in her eyes. She was full of life and bubbly. After reading her Guest Book, I understand that she remained this way throughout her life. I see that tomorrow, friends and family will meet on Kailua Beach to celebrate her life. Know that I will be there with all of you in spirit as you remember her vibrant life.
Fondly,
Barbara (Welsh) Wilson

Susan was a classmate from the 1st graduating class at La Sierra. She kept in contact with many that were a part of the "reunion committee" and we were envious when she relocated to Hawaii. We will miss her and he sparkling smile. She will be remembered at our 50th in 2009.

Susan, all that knew you or kept in contact with you through Kathy, as I did in the last many years, will remember you as I did for your depth of beauty and charm, great spirit and courage, unending passion for life. You have been an inspiration. We know now that you are resting in peace and without pain.

Dear Family and Friends of Susan: My memories of Susan start at Sacramento State College when we were young and adventurous. We became lifelong friends. She smiled through the best and worst of times, always choosing the positive. I went with her to group therapy for cancer patients. The question was, "How has this diagnosis changed your life for the better." I remember her answer, and it changed my attitude. Her sparkling eyes shine for me, but I hurt too much to feel any joy behind my tears today. I grieve along with you and pray for our healing. Love Stella Starkey Almaguer Cordes

Dearest Susan, What a wonderful friened you have been to me. You will always be with me in spirit. I met you in 1969 when out paths crossed working at the Hawaii Visitors Bureau. We had fun sailing out of the Ala Wai Boat harbor taking afternoon jaunts off Waikiki & sailing to Molokai and Maui. Then, we had our children and continued to be best friends. You arranged pot luck get togethers at Kailua Beach park with everyone and all the keki invited. Memorable times. Our children grew up, and we remained great friends getting together to enjoy our favorate Hawaiian bands and concerts. You volunteered at the Diamond Head Theater and other venues. We supported each other with lifes ups & downs. You couseled me with my career objectives. I'll miss you dearly with your infectious laugh, bright smile, twinkling eyes and possitive attitude. Your dear friend "Margalie" as you affectionately called me. Margot

So sorry to hear about Susan. She was such a wonderful person. I so remember us young college girls following her and her friends around, because they were so neat and we were just the young ones.

Susan was my friend, my hero, my advocate for the past 18 years. As much as I loved her, she always seemed to love me more. A bright light left my life on August 18, 2007, but it now seems, when I look at the night sky, that the stars twinkle with the same sort of glow that I saw so many times in her eyes and her smile.

Susan was my idol as a teenager. We worked together as lifeguards one summer and she was just so beautiful and "cool". I was just so not either of those things. She would take off in her little Triumph, blonde hair flowing, adventure ahead. She was all I hoped to be as a 16 year old. She was beautiful inside and out - her smile dazzling, her kindness constant. I wanted to give her children a glimpse of what a fabulous girl Susan was. I believe she was an equally fabulous woman and mother. We were all blessed to know her.
