Not sure what to say?

Your Cousin

June 2, 2013

To the good life and the love you shared, I hope that you can at least smile looking down. I don't know where these scattered memories have left us, but you are still greatly missed today. I don't know what the future holds in store but I guess knowing that you are with us makes me feel at ease. Rest in Peace and stay happy.

To the family of Cpl. Gurpreet Singh:
Gurpreet gave the ultimate sacrifice and will be held in the hearts of Americans forever. I cannot and will not let our fallen heroes be forgotten. My deepest sympathy to you. "Some gave all."

November 20, 2011

It's funny how life is telling me to move on and to think about the future. Suddenly, I am suppose to think about where to go and begin to carve my life's pathway. It's ironic how you come into my mind, because you gave up your life so I can dream about planning mine. I remember I was writing the week I found out that you were no longer with us. Now that it's time to revise my essay it suddenly was about you. I guess I just wanted to say that you still live with us and you will walk with us through the journey lying ahead. I am afraid of my future but my fear fades away when I realize that you'll be with me. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten and it lies heavy in my heart. I know you are here with us all and that you are guiding our family. It's just that some days your memories bring tears in these eyes. I miss you and I just want to thank you for saving all our lives...

Thank You

November 11, 2011

It's been what seems like so long since I last spoke to you. Remembering the days when we all would laugh about useless little things and simply live in the small moments of our life. I live with so many regrets about my family and the choices I have made. I want you to know how much I love and care about you. You taught me how precious life is and that I should use it selflessly by helping others. You taught me that anger is poison and grudges are only a weakness of the mind. I can't dwell on little things any more after knowing someone like you. I wish I could have seen you one last time to show you how proud I am to have witnessed the short but remarkable mark you made on our lives. I can never forget you and there will always be a empty space in my mind where your thoughts dwell. I need to learn how to cope with despair in a better way because all that I've witnessed in my life has left memories that torture me. One day I will think of you and smile. I can't believe you're gone Gopi. We were truely not worthy of having you so God took you away. The time we did have was precious. God loved you too much and took you back but one day we all will be reunited. You were an amazing human being. You had the biggest heart. You are a hero and your legacy will live forever.

Waheguru keep his soul at peace

Your loving cousin

All I can say I really hope you are in better place now. You changed so many people lives. You always put other people before yourself. At the end you gave your life to save others. I just wish 'God' would given you more time on earth. You had so much love to give. It is hard to imagine life without you. You are a real hero and a amazing brother. You will always be our thoughts, like I always wrote to you. I can sit and cry and cry some more but I know my tears won't bring you back; though I wish it did. But I know you want us to be strong and laugh about all the wonderful memories. But it all seems hard but like I always told you before YOU ARE AN AMAZING PERSON. There is no one I even known as kind as you. You came and seems peaceful and happy in my dreams. I wish you are. I hope God have done you justice. I don't know If I ever will meet as kind of person as you. But I'm so glad of 21 years and 8 months I spent with you. I love so much I can't write enough to show my love. You always and forever will me in my heart. You are my hero. Love you brother.

We are apart of Gurpreet Singh's family,
We have personally seen Gurpreet grow into the Marine he became. Words fall short in front of Gurpreet. He just can not be captured through mere words, letters or phrases but we can try. Gurpreet had a clear mindset; he knew that he would leave his mark upon this earth and he achieved that. Tears threaten to flow and the heart shatters; whenever his name is brought up. Life is not easy as it is, and sometimes we spend our whole lives searching for a true reason to live. This boy was only twenty one, and managed to find a reason. Gurpreet Singh wasn't merely looking for sucess in life. This boy was trying to acheive something more on the grounds of Afghanistan; he had this perspective that he could save the world and in some way he did. He gave courage to his fellow men, lead them into a black maze and he loved us all unconditionaly. Hate did not exist in this boy's soul and there is no other like Gurpreet. And it is these views that makes this boy a true man. We can not explain what Gurpreet meant to us because he just is too special. His memories can not be written out nor fully understood through words. His memories are imprinted in our minds and every single day those memories are playing throughout the hours of the day. His mother, father, grandmother, and sister are lucky to be so close to Gurpreet. To have been able to listen to his laughter, to witness his smile, to just simpy touch this angel. We can not change the past, nor predict what the future holds in store. We can only live in this moment; right now. And at this moment we know he is watching us; and all we wish is that his spirit flows to god with peace.

With all due respect,
Kewal & Manmohanjit Singh

I had the unfortunate opportunity to meet CPL GURPREET SINGH while transporting his body out of Afghanistan. While our aircraft was shut down and quite, there was an incredible ceremony while bringing him onto the plane. It was so honoring and peaceful to have him back on US sovereign territory to bring him back to his country and family. My thoughts are with you, your family, and friends.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Gurpreet will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I am friends with Gurpreet's sister, Manpreet. I love her like she is my daughter. My husband and I had the honor of attending the candlelight vigil and funeral on Friday night. We found the service to be extremely moving and even educational. We learned that the Sikh community is loving, compassionate and truly patriotic about their new American freedoms. We learned a whole new perspective on his culture. That all said, we appreciate the tragedy of this loss, and give our heartfelt sympathies for the family with all our love.

Our thoughts are with you during this very sad time. We are the parents and sister of a Marine killed in Iraq in 2004, Lcpl Brad Shuder; so we know what you are experiencing. There are no words to ease this great loss. Our son (born in Korea and adopted by us) felt the same way as did Gurpreet---that he wanted to be of service to this new country of his. The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Cpl . Gurpreet Singh our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Gurpreet. And to Gurpreet it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Gurpreet, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,307 Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Gurpreet’s family and loved ones. Semper Fi !

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I wish I had the right words to say at this time, but I know there are none. I grieve for the loss of your beloved son and I know that I cannot fathom the pain you must be feeling. Your son will not be forgotten and what he did to help protect our homeland and our freedoms. It was his life that made him a Hero. It was his noble path that made him an American Hero.
