Vernon Johnson

Johnson, Vernon Born in North Dakota on Oct. 31, 1916 Vern passed away May 26, 2015, age 98. He was preceded in death in 1963 by his wife Frieda and in 2011 by his second wife Nella. Also children James Johnson, Christine Weathers, (Larry), Leonard Johnson, and Richard Ayres (Charnell). He is survived by children Richard Johnson (Beth), Eileen Lawson (Jerry), Victoria Meeks (Doug), Janet Pilliard (Norman), Deedie Cunningham (Keith) and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was truly an amazing man. We were so lucky to have had him around all these years. He was born in a sod house in North Dakota, lived through the depression and the dust bowl, joined the Navy during WWII, survived his ship, the Helena, being torpedoed and sunk, and worked at Folsom Prison as an electrician during the Johnny Cash, Charlie Manson eras. He had 34 years of retirement enjoying Navy reunions for his ships the Helena and the Houston and RV trips around the country. He served for years as a docent for the Towe Auto Museum, volunteering for hospice, and was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church more than 60 years.
