Met Joleen, then Chuck during our journalism classes/school newspaper days at Sacramento City College during the 60's. He always had that friendly, ready wit he was known for, and his love of Joleen, as many of us witnessed, kindled quickly. As it happened, I met my future wife, Polly, under the same circumstances. In later years, we went to each other's weddings. We didn't mingle that much in the long run but kept in touch and occasionally crossed paths. I went off to a newspaper career with The Sacramento Union and Bee and Chuck went off to a successful career with the state. But, on a few occasions, falling back on his "Pony Express" journalism training, he eagerly accompanied me on sports reporting assignments and assisted with locker-room interviews. A deep-rooted, knowledgeable sports fan with an engaging personality, he was the life-of-the party type, on earth, as he will be in Heaven. He's remembered as someone who had a charitable heart, welcomed challenges and mingling with people. A wonderful family man. Our family's best to his.

A schoolmate when young, later a coworker at EDD, a life too short. Chuck was always honorable, conscientious, and kind. It was a privilege to know him. Condolences to his family and friends.

I worked with Chuck since back in the 1980s. He always had a smile and was an upbeat person, and he loved his family dearly. He had a memory like no other, especially when it came to details of horse racing, from many years before. We will always remember you, Chuck, may you rest in peace.

This man will be missed by many.
I remember when we were at St. Pat's and he wanted to be an altar boy. Because he wasn't Catholic at the time Father Kavanagh told him he couldn't. He was so disappointed. Chuck eventually converted.
We had so much fun at the dance club we all belonged to for a time.
Our thoughts and prayers to everyone. May God hold all of you close...especially during these upcoming holidays. Memories...remember to keep those going always.
Rest in peace my friend.
Love,
Allan Ross

I enjoyed working with Chuck for many years at the Employment Development Department. He was a kind and calm influence there. As he would often say when something troubling would happen: "And the beat goes on." My condolences to his family.
