Jessica Morehead Obituary

Published by Sacramento Bee from Aug. 8 to Aug. 9, 2009.
Jessica Leigh (Jessie) Morehead, left this earth far too early when she died in a terrible car accident at the age of 20 on Sunday morning, August 2, 2009.Born Dec. 30, 1988 in Sacramento to Matt Morehead and Debbie McCoy, Jessie is survived by her parents; her sisters Allie, 18, Lily, 13, and Rosie, 11; her grandparents, Al and Jeanette McCoy; and many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Jessie attended Mariemont Elementary, Arden Middle School, and Rio Americano High School. After attending the University of Oregon as an English major for 2 years, she transferred to Sac City College with plans to continue at UC Davis. As a baby, Jessie was warm and loving, a trait that endeared throughout her life. Her parents and grandparents loved holding baby Jessie and the feeling was mutual. Jessie was very close to her sisters. She enjoyed playing soccer, a sport she continued through high school. She played saxophone in band through middle school and high school. She wrote and edited for her high school newspaper, and in college, she became a life member of Alpha Phi Omega, a national public-service organization. She was an engaging, caring and giving person who enjoyed writing and reading and treasured a personal response to her letter from one of her favorite authors, Chuck Palahniuk. She loved movies and music, TV shows such as The Office and 30 Rock, scrapbooking, yoga, running, and listening to Capitol Public Radio/NPR. She babysat for several neighborhood families and coached a youth soccer team for one year.An open house in celebration of Jessie's life will be hosted 4-7 p.m., Friday, August 14, at the Scheller home, 1412 Stewart Rd., Sacramento.Gifts in Jessie's name may be made to two organizations near and dear to Jessie's heart: Alpha Phi Omega (APO), a national public-service organization, 14901 East 42nd StreetIndependence MO 64055-7347 or Friends of the Sacramento Public Library, 828 I StreetSacramento, CA 95814.

I like that this place for Jessie is still here. I have a photo of her when she was about three years old on my desk in front of me now. I think of her often. Our family is going to celebrate two weddings in the next month -- a time to look forward. I will be thinking about Jessie, remembering all about her, at this time.

What a surprise to find this guest book still open. I know it has been years since Jessie's passing, but she was in our families thoughts tonight as we were driving around Arden Park looking at Christmas lights. I remember Jessie from Kindergarten through 6th grade. She was often in the same class as our son. She was the sweetest child/young lady and touched many people with her thoughtfulness. I volunteered often, as did her mother, and Jessie was one of my favorite children at Mariemont. Gone but not forgotten. Blessings to Jessie's family as her birthday approaches.

Jessie was an amazing person! She would always help me with my homework or come up with a fun game when she was babysitting. I just wish she were still here. Thank You Jessie for always being there!

Dear Matt, Debbie, Allie, Lilly and Rosie: I think of the pain you're in knowing I could never be as strong as you all are. Jessie was blessed by having you as her family during her far too short, but accomplished life. I know her being loved by so many will never take away the pain, but I hope it helps in some small way. I was lucky to have her as my Niece and I will always love and miss her. Uncle Kenny.

Dear Matt, Debbie, Allie, Lilly and Rosie-
We could not be more heartbroken to hear of your tragic loss. While we've known you and Jessie at something of a distance -- through soccer and the greater Mariemont family -- we hold such fondness for you and have been so grateful for all you have contributed to our children's lives. Words offer little comfort at a time like this, but please know you are in our thoughts.

We are so shocked and saddened to hear this news. We loved Jessie. She was our babysitter for several years before going to the U of O (my alma mater), and we were so lucky to know her. She was a smart, kind, and energetic young woman who really enjoyed children. She spoke often of her younger sisters, whom she adored, and of spending time with her family. We are so very, very sorry that she is gone so soon, and know that she had so much more she would have given the world. Our heartfelt condolences. Dear Family,

Jessie was the best student a teacher could wish for, and one of the best to go through Rio Americano. She was incredibly thoughtful, willing to question, and always sincere. As a teacher I always knew that I could count on Jessie. I am so saddened to hear the news; my heart goes out to Allie and to all of your family.

Dear Matt, Debbie, Allie, Lilly, and Rosie,
There are no words to describe our sadness and sorrow over the loss of Jessie. Phillip and I remember her as a warm-hearted, intelligent, thoughtful and hardworking student. We know she shared the same kind of persistence and dedication Allie has when it comes to completing a difficult goal. Jessie never gave up on her dreams and was a joy to get to know as both a student and an individual. Matt and Debbie, we have known you to be such caring and loving parents of all your girls. You have always reminded us of how we would like to parent our sons so they can continue and grow up to be people like Jessie.
We are here for you whenever you need us.
Our love and thoughts are with you,
Jill, Phillip, Mitchell, and Elliott Montbriand
