Patricia HABEL Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 26 to Jan. 28, 2010.

HABEL, Patricia M. (nee Howe)
Died on January 24, 2010, at the age of 49. The cause of death was lung cancer.
Ms. Habel leaves her husband, Timothy J. Howe and her son, John T. Howe, age 14.
After graduation from Rio Americano High
School in 1978, Ms. Habel attended the University of California at Davis, graduating in 1982 with a degree in political science. After working on the re-election campaign of Senator Leroy Greene, she went to work in the district office of Congressman Vic Fazio.
In 1987, she began over twenty years of service with the California State Legislature. During her time in the Capitol she served as committee consultant to the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee under Assemblyman Johan Klehs, legislative assistant to Assemblyman Tom Umberg, and Capitol Chief of Staff to Assembly members Kerri Mazzoni and Betty Karnette. From 2001-2003, during the Davis Administration, she also served as Assistant Secretary of Education for Legislative Affairs under Secretary Mazzoni. Her last job was Director of the Legislative Women's Caucus under Assembly member Patti Berg.
In March, 2007, she left the Legislature to be at home for her son.
Ms. Habel and her husband were married in 1985. Their son John was born in 1995.
Besides her husband and son, Ms. Habel leaves her mother, Elizabeth Habel, her brother Robert Habel (Marilu), her sisters Janet Botula (Al) and Laurie Habel, two step-children Robert Howe (Linda) and Julie Starbird (Brian), nephews Nicholas and Robert Habel, Jeff Botula, and Jonathan Morrissey, and nieces Katie Botula and Kristen Morrissey. She was also the expectant grandmother of twins.
Ms. Habel was born on July 20, 1960 in Sacramento. Ms. Habel was the quintessential American: the descendent of Pilgrims (Bradford) on her father's side and the daughter of an immigrant.
Ms. Habel was known for her wonderfully positive personally. To know Patti was to like and love her. She was strong and spirited. She was always a cheerful, supportive, positive, friendly and non-judgmental person. For her life was always good, even during trying and sad times; ordinary days were special days for her. Besides being a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister, Patti was a progressive-minded, nature loving person. She loved to travel and was a gourmet cook. She will be forever remembered by friends and family for her enthusiasm for life.
She spent 47 years being grateful for her life and two years being grateful for the support of her friends and family during her illness.
Services will be on Friday, January 29 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Cathedral located at 27th and Capital Avenues. Remembrances may be made to the Sacramento SPCA, 6201 Florin-Perkins Road, Sacramento 95828, the American River Foundation, 5700 Arden Way Carmichael 95608, or the Sacramento Food Bank, 3333 3rd Avenue, Sacramento, 95817

I am absolutely sobbing as I write this, I cannot regain my composure right now. This is from Debbie Henson,l knew and loved Patty more than anyone could know. I met Patty when she fell deeply in love with Tim, he was working for Vic Fazio then. She and I were roomates in Davis. I met her entire family, and I loved them more than they will every know. I just logged on to find her addres to send a Christmas card. My life has been sad and choatic, I did not wish this on her and Tim. This year I wanted to reach out, find out how she was, her sisters, brothers, mom, dad. I see this Obituary. I have just died inside. Patty was the most fun, creative, deep, so loving, warm, accepting. She was from a different world in her love of everyone. To see her gone, just kills me. I had no idea, which makes it worse. Patty always told me, if my " parents die, I will not survive Debbie". I knew her love of them so much. I also knew she snuck a cigerette her and there. I knew so much about her. She was fun, crazy fun, she was a professional, she was someone anyone would wish to mentor. I am so blown away right now, Patty, my heart is with you. My love is with you Tim. She loved you more than earth, and you were intially afraid of the age difference. Patty knew better. She loved having your son, she was so proud. Her parents were the most loving people on earth. Betty, John, where are you now. I am so hurt and sorry. I love you all, and am crying and praying for Patty and her family. I am so sorry. So sorry. Tim, I love you too, keep drinking the coffee. You were so concerned at having a child at your age, but just like Patty, she knew it would mean nothing. And there you are raising your child. Gold Bless you with all my heart. Debbie Henson, 775-461-3077, please if you get this , let me know how you are, all of you. I have no spell check, but my grief is so strong right now, I really knew Patty. She was so evolved and precious, just a deep, fun, sensitive human being. I love you Patty

My sincere regards go out to Patti's family! I knew her when we both worked for the Assembly at the State Capitol for many years, and she was a delightful lady to know and work with.
May she rest in peace and with no more suffering.

"Quite the spirit...living on, unfettered by erratic cells, her soul spreads its energy through the universe while maintaining the core of her being. I did not know her, but I've known those like her and treasure them as I'm sure I would have treasured Patricia had I known her.

I am sorry for your loss." Bruce Lerner (Sacramento, CA)

My love to you; Tim and John. I will miss Patti as a dear friend who ran with me, walked dogs with me, built chicken coops with our family and kept us all company on our mum's nights out. She was selfless and had a huge heart.

Patti was truly one of the nicest girls in jr. high and high school. I could always count on her and Val to be together sharing a laugh. I ran into her a few years ago at Arden Hills, and she looked exactly the same: cute and happy. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I knew Patti from Rio Americano HS. Very sweet girl with glowing, happy spirit. We served together in student government and went to a prom together. My condolences to her family.

Tim and family, I'm so sorry to read this news. The obituary really captures the spirit of Patti. There must be some consolation in knowing that her good work in the legislature left this earth a better place.

I want to express my condolences to Tim, John. and the rest of Patti's family. Patti was such a wonderful person. I enjoyed her company very much. When you lived in our neighborhood, Patti was always one to let the neighborhood kids come over and play. I have a lot of fond memories of our neighborhood gatherings. I am sorry that she has left us so early. Take Care Sylvia
