Dear Daddy,

I heard a country song today Dad called If Heaven wasn't so far away and it made me think of you.
What I would give if heaven wasn't so far away I would pack up my family and visit for a day. We would go fish and ride bikes and laugh all day. I would tell you all about your grandkids. How they remind me of you when I look into Brian's eyes and see you looking back at me. The color of Stephanie hair and how it reminds me of yours before is turned gray.
If heaven wasn't so far away. I would let you know how much I missed the time we were able to spend together. How wonderful it sounds when Brian plays the trumpet and how the angles dance at the sounds of Stephanie cello.
If heaven wasn't so far away, I would let you know that Brian got his first kiss and Stephanie is on the honor roll. How Brian was able to fly a plane and Stephanie loves of animals. When I look at them I'm reminded of your smile.
If heaven wasn't so far away your grandkids could dance with grandpa boo boo leg all day.
If heaven wasn't so far away I would tell you how proud I was of you for standing up and fighting the cancer that took your last breath. I would tell you, that I have never seen a father fight like you, that and let you know how your fight gives me the strength to say goodbye.

To the family of Philip Barnett, I wish to offer my condolences in the passing of your loved one. Although I did not personally know him, I know that my father, Bob Chilimidos, did and he would have been heartbroken to learn of his passing had he still been around. My dad was a CJ Professor at Sac State as well as Chief of Police at Cal Expo and after reading the obituary, they worked during the same time period. All my best to you and yours as you grieve. I promise it does get easier over time.
